Time is not of the essence in this part of northern Scotland and we spend much time just strolling where paths look safe enough but eventually we must reluctantly return back to the railway station where we board the 1401 First ScotRail service to Wick that arrives at 1455 on Saturday afternoon.

Let's risk the dreaded syndrome

We catch Stagecoach Highland bus X97 at 1610 to LYBSTER arriving at 1637 Saturday afternoon, scouring the countryside to the right of the bus for signs of the long defunct light railway

I think that you will find hardened travellers such as us have developed an immunity to Lybster Omnibus Syndrome.....

Saturday afternoon is a good time to look at the old harbour area and absorb the feeling of history in that area and suitably refreshed, we return back to the bus stop and board the 1812 Stagecoach Highlands service X99 to Dunbeath (War Memorial on Village Road) that arrives there at 1825 on Saturday afternoon.

We have time to look around another harbour area before catching the X99 again at 1952 and riding to Cadboll Wood South A9, arriving at 2136 Saturday evening

Saturday night see us asking for news of a place to stay overnight, knowing that Sunday will not see many early onward bus services for very many hours but we are told that "Fiona" runs an excellent establishment so we decide to stay there and have a good night sleep and a full Scottish breakfast. We find that it will be afternoon for the next service northwards (again!!), so we stay for an excellent mid-day meal and a local farmer has been approached to take us to the bus stop on the access road which allows us to board the 1512 Stagecoach Highlands service X99 to Scrabster Ferry Terminal that arrives there at 1751...on Sunday afternoon.

Well there's only one bus out that evening - our favourite the X99 - at 1850. The only question is where to?

Let's try Tain this time, arriving at 2116, Sunday evening, in Lamington Street

Late Sunday night needs a method of travel to an onward destination with a few options, so it's "awa' tae the railway station", where we are in time to board the 2220 First ScotRail service to Dingwall that arrives there at 2253 on Sunday evening.

Now from Dingwall on the 0555 Stagecoach Highlands route 27 to Inverness Bus Station arriving at 0615 on Monday.

Now after a short walk to the rail station travel on the 0647 First ScotRail departure to Edinburgh arriving at 1000

Time for a rapid (well relatively) change of scenery.

We catch the 1010 XC service, travelling through to Liskeard, arriving at 1923 on Monday evening

We spend some time looking around, but decide to head for a large city next, the time being what it is and "a change of TOC is as good as a rest" so we go back into the station and board the 2045 FGW service to Plymouth that arrives there at 2120 on Monday night.

We are just within the minimum connection time to catch the FGW 2125 departure and travel as far as Starcross, arriving at 2227, Monday night

Obviously we are far too late to consider taking the Starcross ferry to Exmouth, but we are compensated by the fact that there is a rail service down the coastal route coming soon and we board the 2248 FGW service to Paignton that arrives there at 2337 on Monday evening.

We continue on Stagecoach 12 bus at 2353 to Brixham, arriving 0011 Tuesday morning

Time to book into a small hotel and after a good restful nights sleep and a hearty breakfast, we make our way to the bus stop where we board the 0830 Stgecoach Devon service 12 to Newton Abbot, opposite to the railway station, that arrives there at 0928 on Tuesday morning.

We have plenty of time to catch the 0957 FGW train to Bodmin Parkway, arriving at 1123 on Tuesday morning

Then catch the 1209 FGW service to Newbury arriving at 1541 on Tuesday Afternoon

Still continuing ever eastwards, we board the 1613 FGW service to Reading that arrives at 1645 on Tuesday afternoon.

Time for a snack before catching the 1742 SWT service to Longcross, arriving 1816 Tuesday evening

Longcross is unfortunately a station with no road access and we have absolutely no intention whatsoever of taking the footpath across the golf course, so we board the 1846 SWT service to Clapham Junction that arrives at 1923 on Tuesday evening.

We have half an hour to wait before catching the 1953 Southern service, carefuly travelling in the right portion, to Cooden Beach, arriving at 2136 on Tuesday evening

Timing was of the essence on the previous journey, as this now enables us time to board the 2144 SN service to Lewes that arrives there at 2238 on Tuesday night.

We have plenty of time to stroll to the High Street, quaffing a pint or so en route, before catching Brighton and Hove bus 28 at 2328 (time at Waitrose) to Uckfield Bus station, arriving at 2359 Tuesday night

Time once again to seek overnight accomodation, with an early alarm call and another hearty breakfast, before setting off for the railway station to board the 0634 SN service to London Bridge that arrives at 0749 on Wednesday morning.

We continue on the SET 0800 service to Cannon Street, arriving 0806 Wednesday morning

Time to head outwards from the capital, so we board the 0827 SE service to Dartford that arrives at 0912 on Wednesday morning.

We catch Arriva Kent service B at 0919 from Home Gardens and ride to Ebbsfleet International arriving at 0953, Wednesday morning

Onwards by rail and there is plenty of time to have a hot drink before we board the 1029 SE service to Dover Priory that arrives there at 1120 on Wednesday morning.
