We wait for the next service out of Newark North Gate (as there seems to be no late Saturday or Sunday service for any of these buses), and as it's a Sunday it's an alarmingly late 11:03 for the LNER service to Lincoln, arriving at 11:29 on Sunday morning.

There are earlier train services available towards London, Harrogate or Nottingham.

On that note, were there not any other services from 2053 to 2200 at Kings Cross? Seems a long wait (especially to return to Nottinghamshire!)
I believe the minimum connection time to be 15 mins at KGX (although I'm open to correction), so the next available train to Newark was the 22.00

I see.

Well I'll continue from Newark then, on the basis that there are earlier services.

As we've ended up back in Nottinghamshire again from London, we go for the 0907 London North Western Railway service 1A15 to Peterborough, arriving there at 0939 on Sunday morning.

We down a rapid pint at "The Railway", looking longingly at the Sunday lunches being served up and walk gloomily the 400 yards to the War Memorial to catch the 13:18 Nottingham City Transport service 26 to Nottingham (King Street)* where we arrive at 13:55 on Sunday afternoon.

* - sorry, not much choice from Lowdham

Such a rule wouldn't be allowed anyway because it's over the maximum 0.5 mile walk.

We then walk downstairs for the 18:10 Thameslink service to Redhill, arriving for 18:56 on Sunday afternoon.

We next board the 1904 Southern service 1C54 to Fratton, arriving there at 2047 on Sunday evening.

We take advantage of the overnight relaxation rule and return in the morning for the 0536 South Western Railway service 1L16 to London Waterloo, arriving there at 0736 on Monday morning.

Or we can argue about the semantics of...

You may walk up to about half a mile when changing modes to a stop in the vicinity, if you wish.

...and how 0.6 miles would reasonably be seen as approximately 0.5 miles. But to be fair, there has to be a limit somewhere...

We take the 0820 South Western Railway service to Exeter Central arriving there at 1137 on Monday morning.

We take the 11 minute (0.5 mile) walk to Exeter St Davids railway station to board the 12:27 CrossCountry service to Leuchars, arriving there for 21:29 on Monday night.

Edit: Definitely didn't say Monday morning.
