We then get the London Eastern Railway service 1E23 to London Kings Cross, arriving at 2053 Saturday evening.
We wait for the next service out of Newark North Gate (as there seems to be no late Saturday or Sunday service for any of these buses), and as it's a Sunday it's an alarmingly late 11:03 for the LNER service to Lincoln, arriving at 11:29 on Sunday morning.
There are earlier train services available towards London, Harrogate or Nottingham.
I believe the minimum connection time to be 15 mins at KGX (although I'm open to correction), so the next available train to Newark was the 22.00On that note, were there not any other services from 2053 to 2200 at Kings Cross? Seems a long wait (especially to return to Nottinghamshire!)

We take the 0955 LNER service to Grantham arriving at 1013 on Sunday morning.
We walk the 13 minutes (0.6 miles) to Wellingborough Post Office, where we board the 16:24 Stagecoach Northamptonshire gold service X47 to Northampton (Bus Interchange), arriving at 17:12 on Sunday afternoon.
We then walk downstairs for the 18:10 Thameslink service to Redhill, arriving for 18:56 on Sunday afternoon.
Such a rule wouldn't be allowed anyway because it's over the maximum 0.5 mile walk.
You may walk up to about half a mile when changing modes to a stop in the vicinity, if you wish.
We take the 0820 South Western Railway service to Exeter Central arriving there at 1137 on Monday morning.
