There are services in the following short period of time after 0500 but it would contravene the rule as written if they were to be used. Perhaps if the rule time of 0500 was extended to 0600, that would cover such eventualities.

I suppose there are parts of the country where the 0500 time is sufficient, but bear in mind there are other more rural areas where it is not.

It is the first available after the interchange time, or in this case 05:00, so even if there is no service for some time, way no Sunday service, the next service available would be the first on Monday in this case.

Ithink OxtedL is interpreting the rules as it was meant, if not written. No-one batted an eyelid at this for example (the most recent):

We use the new (is it still new?) overnight rule to get the 05:36 National Express Coventry service 9 to Coventry (Rail Station Interchange (Stop ER4)), arriving at 05:44 Tuesday morning.

Guys you're all making this so much more confusing than it needs to be. We're at Seaham at 2354 on Wednesday. If there is another service remaining, use that, otherwise it'll be a service the next day, whether it be before 0500 or after 0500.

No, I think the rule allows you to wait (if you wish to, up until 0500) then make the next available move after this time.

I don't think this is as complicated as it's being made out, perhaps someone can suggest a move?

The way I read it is that " you are allowed to wait until 0500 the next day if you wish" is a relaxation to the usual rules, thus allowing people to wait longer than might otherwise be permitted in certain circumstances.
