I must admit we had a huge posting spree then!

From Hartlepool, we then board 1A68, the 1553 Grand Central service to Northallerton, arriving there at 1629 on Saturday afternoon.

We haven't been on a bus all day, so we leave the station and catch the Dales & District 73 service, which arrives at the nearby station bus stop at 16:39. We ride it all the way to its terminus Bedale Market Place, arriving at 17:03 on Saturday afternoon.

The 73 is the only bus service still running at this hour, so we board the 1735 Dales and District service 73 to Romanby (Harewood Lane/Ainderby Road), arriving there at 1751 on Saturday afternoon.

Yeah, looked like there were plenty of buses, turned out most of them were just once a day :(

We walk back to the bus stop at the station, in time to catch the 18:16 Dales & District service 54 to Catterick Garrison (Tesco) at 19:01 on Saturday evening.

Then it's back onto the rails, and we make a tight (but perfectly acceptable!) connection onto the 20:30 Northern Trains service 2D72 to Saltburn, where we arrive at 21:25 on Saturday evening.

You've been beaten to Saltburn I'm afraid!

Again, all the buses in this area finish early (god knows how residents are supposed to get about; there is life after 5pm believe it or not - even in Saltburn ), so we have no choice but to hop back on the rails as we board 2D61, the 2130 Northern service to Middlesbrough, arriving there at 2155 on Saturday evening.

I can offer our weary traveller overnight accommodation if you remain in the area ;)

Ah, but there is a bus serving Saltburn late at night (although, admittedly, hard to find). It's the 707/8 service.

It also serves Marske. We walk up to the roundabout in time to catch the 708 bus (operated by Connect Tees Valley), arriving at 22:48. We take it to Redcar Bus Station, arriving there at 22:58 on Saturday evening. Perhaps in time to take Ainsworth up on his offer!

We take up Ainsworth's offer and crash for the night. We then wake up fresh and board the 0615 Arriva North East service 63 to Middlesbrough (Bus Station), arriving there at 0707 on Sunday morning.

Going at the slow Sunday pace, we take our time to wait for just the right service. And, at 08:50, it arrives - the Arriva North East X92 service to Scarborough. We take it to Whitby Bus Station, where it arrives at 09:58 on Sunday morning.

We then board the 1701 Stagecoach Supertram Yellow service to Middlewood, arriving there at 1723 on Sunday afternoon.

Not at the moment it doesn't - no trams between Fitzalan Square and University for another week or so due to engineering works...

Then we board the Supertram Link service SL (operated by Stagecoach). This is a frequent service, even on a Sunday evening (I was beginning to think the North didn't have public transport at these kinds of times!). Anyway, it's timed to connect with the tram, so we do make the relatively tight connection onto the 17:26 SL bus. It takes us to Deepcar Carr Rd (Adj. Carr Fold), where we arrive at 17:39 on Sunday afternoon.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
Wishing to see a settlement that once had a railway station serviced by the ubiquitous Class76 electrical locomotives, we take the short walk to the bus stop on Manchester Road and board the 1757 Stagecoach Yorkshire service SL to Oughtibridge (Station Road/Low Road) that arrives there at 1807 on Sunday afternoon.

There's still enough daylight to enjoy some Pennine scenery, so we transfer to TM Travel service 62 at 1850, alighting at Dungworth (Main Road / Sidling Hollow) at 1912 Sunday evening

we're in Ecclesfield.
