I was under the impression that this was a major spell of engineering works, hence why the rule regarding variations to timetables in this case would have been lifted. If it had been just one or two days of engineering works then I would have known.

May I ask you to note that the previous service arrived at 0011, so there needs to be be a minimum 5 minute connection time for a journey that follows that one.
It was only a very short three-week period that would allow the already-constructed new platform 4 to have all its signalling and operational requirements fully linked to all the three existing platform running lines and commissioned.
