Entering the station opposite the post office, we take advantage of a relatively new rail service as we board 1N31, the 1333 First TransPennine Express service to Wilmslow, arriving there at 1623 on Wednesday afternoon.

This service attaches to 1U69 (1440 ex-Blackpool North) at Preston.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
[*]So the game remains realistic, you should use the current timetable for the relevant day not including timetable variations for engineering works.

Noting that the last posting that uses the existing 3-week closure of Manchester Airport station (19th February to 9th February) to use Wilmslow as the temporary terminus, I have shown an extract from the rules of the quiz that appears to rule out such a posting. It is not a new rail service in the accepted term of use but just one for the three-week period of the engineering works

I welcome any comment on the above.

Not sure I'd agree with the preamble So the game remains realistic but otherwise it seems clear what is intended.

Though there must be occasions when there is no 'current timetable' other than that catering for long term works. Doesn't seem to be the case here

I was under the impression that this was a major spell of engineering works, hence why the rule regarding variations to timetables in this case would have been lifted. If it had been just one or two days of engineering works then I would have known.

Anyway, exiting St Annes-on-the-Sea station and heading to the North Crescent bus stop, we then board the 1621 Blackpool Transport service 17 to Blackpool (Market Street), arriving there at 1700 on Wednesday afternoon.

It was only a very short three-week period that would allow the already-constructed new platform 4 to have all its signalling and operational requirements fully linked to all the three existing platform running lines and commissioned. This is why all the lines in the approaches to the airport had to be closed.

I knew the work that was going on but I thought it would more long-term, so assumed it would be allowed in this case. If it was just one day of work, then I'd see why.

We change TOC and board the 0638 LM service to Marston Green that arrives at 0708 on Thursday morning.

Exiting the station, we then have a little bit of a wat so we grab a coffee before boarding the 0752 National Express West Midlands service 70 to Ward End (Fox & Goose), arriving there at 0847 on Thursday morning.

Let's take the 2.45 pm Trent Swift service (don't blame me, this is what their timetable says) from Uttoxeter Bus Station arriving Ashbourne Bus Station (long bus shelter/layby with closed toilet but good timetable display) at 3.25 pm on Thursday afternoon.

The landlord of that pub kindly let my D of E kids eat their dinner on his outside tables once, even though they weren't allowed to buy anything. Let's repay his hospitality by having a couple of pints then take the High Peak 1758 442 service from Crowdecote to Buxton Market Place arriving 1817 on Thursday evening.
