We make our way to the mainline station and take the 2352 Thameslink train to Harlington (Beds) arriving at 0046 Monday morning

(I think this is the regular timetable - but the engineering works one is only marginally different)

Regular participants will not be surprised to see us boarding another of Thameslink's all-night service ....

Bedford's 7 minute minimum connection time is enough for us to join the 0142 Thameslink train to East Croydon arriving at 0334 Monday morning.

Coventry, despite being a fairly sizeable city, does not appear to have any night buses, so we let the hours pass in the incredibly drab Pool Meadow bus station before boarding the 0415 National Express West Midlands service 900 to Allesley Green (Parkhill Estate), arriving there at 0427 on Tuesday morning.

Not wishing to be sent to Coventry again, we mooch about the area in darkness for a bit, then take the next 900 NX West Midlands at 0522 to Birmingham Digbeth Coach Station arriving at 0608 on Tuesday morning. If we don't fall asleep we will have had good views of Birmingham airport, and Birmingham International station coming to life.
