Mind ye, I'm going to hang fire for a while before I even consider using Google Chrome. If nothing else, I don't like that little bit in the T&Cs that basically says "By using Google Chrome, you agree that Google shall have a full and unrestricted licence to any and all content uploaded to the Internet via your Chrome browser"...Not only does that allow Google to steal full ownership rights from me in respect of any video I upload to YouTube, but it also means that Google can - If they wish - Take ownership of and use any kind of data that I'd post via Chrome...Including credit card numbers and site logins! hock::mad:
In my book, the browser would be better known as Google Spyware...

That clause has been removed from the EULA.

Although I'm running XP Pro here, I prefer to keep my taskbar over on the left hand side of the screen which gives so much more space for task buttons.
On top of that, I've recently discovered that it's possible to have an MSIE browser window displayed as a toolbar, meaning that I could create whatever system or interface I wish (Such as a news ticker or RSS reader) as a web application, and have it displayed in the task-bar in a similar way to some of Vista's widgets! 8)

Another way that I've found to keep the icons down - Though this might work for me as I've been a PC tinkerer since MS-DOS days - Is to know the names for all of your applications and make sure that they're all registered in Windows properly. Once that's done, launching an application is as simple as pressing [Windows key]+R, entering the name of the application, and hitting [Enter]. 8)

Thanks, knew you could do it for Windows programs, such as iexplore.exe and taskmgr.exe, but not for 3rd party ones.

I'm no Apple or OSX man myself admittedly, but am I right in assuming that Exposé is a utility for temporarily hiding or "vanishing" on-screen objects? :?

Maybe it's just because I'm so used to operating my machine via the keyboard...But if I'm doing a screen grab with confidential apps running, I can hit [Win key]+D to minimize everything, then it's a simple case of editing out the taskbar buttons in paint before posting!

Oh and Gizzy: I can still see that ye were running SimSig when ye took that screen grab! :razz:

Ahh...I wasn't aware of that. I checked out Chrome the day after release and thanked the Gods that I'm one of those few users who actually read the EULA before running new software! hock:

Either way though, I'm perfectly happy with Firefox...FF with the NoScript and DownloadHelper add-ons is a good set-up for my liking. 8)

Well, it can be hit and miss at times. I find with some programs that I have to type the full file path out by hand (I.E: C:\Progra~1\Atosor~1\Avanti~1\Avanti~1.exe) to actually execute the application if it hasn't registered itself into Windows for some reason. For this reason, I'm just thankful that all versions of Windows - Even Vista - Still support the old MS-DOS 8.3 standard for file and path locations...It's a very handy shortcut at times, as my example above shows! 8)

And personally, I've tried sMac OS numerous times, but I've never liked it. Macs have a nasty habit of trying to hide anything technical from the end user, even if it's obvious that they're technically minded!

Yeah, it can also be used to move between windows. Either using the keyboard or the mouse.

I think that's intentional, to make it easier for novices to use I guess. Like everything it has it's pros and cons (just like Windows, Linux, etc.).

Its still a bit dodgy though reports of it logging everything you type.

Yes. Exposé just kinda shifts everything to the edges of the screens. Or allows you to lay everything out and see what you have open.
Although you can still minimise things.

Oh yeah. Mac is great. I still use Windows on my desktop PC though.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages, but Mac is pretty amazing.

My new one, I took it a few weeks ago, while Deltic chasing on the 24th August.

Also has my Start Menu, which I rarely use, preferring the shortcuts I have in Stuff/Shortcuts. As you can see, I use Chrome as my browser and Thunderbird for emails.

Still sounds to me a bit like the [Alt]+[Tab] task-switching in Windows...And that's been a standard feature since at least Windows 3.1, if not Windows 2! hock:
(Granted, I note from Gizzy's video that Exposé gives three different types of window selection...But as I normally know exactly what application on my PC is doing what - And what the focus/selection order is for those applications - I can normally bash the right amount of "clicks" into [Alt]+[Tab] without even thinking about it! )

The task-switching in Windows Aero for Vista looks kind of nice, but as far as I'm concerned it's just CPU-eating eye candy and not really necessary. In XP Professional I get a small and unobtusive box showing an icon and the current string value of the application's title bar...Which is more than enough for me, and I've never heard any Vista Basic users complaining about not having Aero, either! 8)

The other thing that you can do with Exposé is you can set corners of the screen to certain functions. So, for example you can move your cursor to the top left corner of the screen to see all open windows, or all open windows in one application, or to hide all windows and show the desktop, or to start the screensaver, to show the dashboard and more.

Also you can also set F number keys to do some of these too. So if I press F9, I can see all open windows and select one to focus on. If I press F10, I can see all my open windows of the current application (in this case, all of my Safari windows). If I press F11, it hides all of my windows and shows the desktop. With another keystroke, everything whooshes back in.

I'm kinda tired, so that was jibberish. But Exposé is something that I find very useful to have around and makes everything ever so much easier to navigate and such. Definately something that Mac has over on Windows in my opinion.

Oh, and you can also have multiple desktops.

Exactly, and if you wish to get the desktop quickly, just click 'show desktop' in the task bar.
