So we are all (well mostly aanyway) railway enthusiasts, but how far are you from an actual railway station?
NR only..
I'm 7 miles from Tiverton Parkway, which is my nearest station.

When in Blandford my nearest station is Holton Heath (14 mi), but my main stations are Salisbury (20 mi) and Bournemouth (21 mi).

When in Kenilworth my nearest station is Tile Hill (4 mi), but my main stations are Coventry (6 mi) and Leamington (7 mi). However my bedroom is 69 metres from the nearest railway line as the eagle flies.

How many options am I allowed to tick? :P

My house backs on to the railway opposite the single platform, however due to bridge crossing and road layout about a 10 min walk.

At the end of my garden is a steep downwards bank, then the railway line at the platform. Perhaps i live the closest to any station on here, yet a half mile walk due to lack of crossing places.

About 200m from Wanstead Park, and about 600m from Forest Gate.
If there's an Eastbound 172 in the platform at WNP, I can see the rear cab from my bedroom window.

When I was younger, I had a bedsit in a house that had a garden that backed onto the Northbound platform of Maidstone Barracks. I could quite easily throw a stone from my window onto the platform.

Are we talking pre- or post-Beeching? ;)

Post-Beeching, 13 miles to Durham, 15 miles to Newcastle.

Pre-Beeching, about 200 yards. Which is a shame, because it would have made my commute an awful lot easier, especially if I could have got off at Manors, which I can see from my office.

On a train...somewhere!
About a mile and a half from NTR. There are shorter ways to walk it in about 20mins. Record on my racing bike is 7mins start from home to being on platform with bike locked up!

I've never timed myself. I reckon I could do it in under 10 minutes if I rushed but I always give myself enough time to make sure there's no need.

I'm pretty much "just round the corner" from Loughborough, although I don't have a direct line-of-sight. In fact, the "Loughborough Gateway" building work has made the walking route from my house a decent amount shorter, it's about 2 minutes away.

I live right next to the railway, but my nearest station is Lincoln Central - about 5 miles away.

15 mins walk from Derby (close to the station was a big factor in choosing a house to rent. Unfortunately there weren't any decent ones in our price range any closer at the time we had to move).

As the crow flies, I live 200 metres from the end of the platforms at Darlington station and my house backs onto the ECML.

It is a 500 metre walk according to sustrans to the Victoria Road entrance.

When we lived in Linslade (many many moons ago), a friend of my dad (a train driver as I recall) lived directly opposite the rear entrance of Leighton Buzzard station. If he was/is a member, I think he would win hands down...unless someone has purchased an old station building and converted it into their own home. Does staying on Dent station count?

In a straight line Oldfield Park is roughly two miles away; in practice it is nearer 4 than 2.

At home it is a 12 minute walk to Thorpe Bay.

15 minutes to 20 minutes walk from Chapel en le Frith station which is 1.3 miles away from me. Its all uphill there, so can be ran in 10 minutes coming home  - will use Chapel once or twice a week.

The station I use more frequently for my commute is Chinley, 2.1 miles away on the dot. Its about a half hour walk and probably more up-hill coming home.

I'm just under a mile from my nearest station when at home and half a mile from my nearest station at university.

Here in Birmingham I am 510m from Moor Street station and 910m from New Street station (by walking).

In Bristol I am 2.7km (by walking/driving) to the nearest station.

4 miles from Wolverhampton, but it's quite a steep hill, unsuitable for biking it. Used to be a direct bus, but they turned it into a windy one and then stopped it going into the bus station anyway.

Give it three years time and Brinsford Parkway is pretty much on my doorstep I think! Trains pretty much pass my house..

In Leicester I am a 50 minute walk from the station but the hospital hopper is free for me and takes me half of the way.
