Just a thought, would a Leg be able to start at Kings Cross, as it is a LU station as well as a Terminus station...

As far as National Rail services go, King's Cross is a terminus and is therefore invalid as a starting station.

1. How to play

At the start of a game, the OP (at the very beginning or if necessary) or the player who previously ended a leg of the journey, will choose a starting station (unless the player has called an open floor, in which any player can choose a starting station) that adheres to the following criteria:

It is on NR rails (or Merseyrail)

It is not just a terminal station.

This extract of the rules gives the answer to the queries that were recently raised.

To give a slightly different case, would Hadfield or Bere Alston be permitted as starting stations, since both stations have through service, albeit through reversal?

I think that it would be advisable to steer clear of stations such as these when starting a new leg, but I do note the point that you have so thoughtfully raised on the matter.

It's funny that you mention that actually, as last night I was also thinking about the rules with regards to starting at a terminal station. I realise these are the rules, and I'm certainly not judging or criticising anyone here, but I'd have thought it would have been easier to start at a terminal station because that way no one is guaranteed to win straight away. Take the Esk Valley Line for example. Someone could start at Sleights, then someone may decide to go for Ruswarp, and then someone else can chip in quick and win with Whitby. By starting at a terminal station such as Ilkley for example, the next stations would go Ben Rhydding, Burley-in-Wharfedale, etc etc, making it fair and not a game plan. But even so, it's never been much of an issue regardless.
