Cressing? By my rough calculations with a ruler, this is within 30 miles of Clacton.
I agree that Brighton is a penalty as it has direct services to the resorts you mention and Seaford. I suppose it would be possible to have a service to itself in the same way that Waterloo and Edinburgh have.

Cressing is approximately 25 miles from Clacton, making it a viable answer.

Unfortunately however, the answer required is 35 miles from Clacton (and thus out of range for this round; it does have direct services though!): Ingatestone (just over 15 miles from Southend).

An interesting point about Brighton in relation to Waterloo and Edinburgh though!
