Hi. Out of interest, what is the longest freight only railway line in the UK?
Hi. Out of interest, what is the longest freight only railway line in the UK?
SRS website has it down as 10m 23ch from Neath & Brecon Junction - Onllwyn Junction, with a further 1m 59ch to the colliery boundary.Any of the lines in South Wales? Onllwyn possibly, and how long was Barry to Bridgend before introduction of the passenger services?
Ian
Chinley North Junction to Buxton via Peak Forest and Great Rocks totals 11m 22ch, although this is arguably two joined lines.
Out of use but still in the Sectional Appendix, Glebe Street Junction to Caldon Quarry via Leek is 18m 62ch.
Not as long as examples above, Stillington Line is just over 7 miles, is Stilligton still in use these days...
If the Leamside Line ever reopened for freight, that would be quite long, about 35 miles
Oh right, I actually thought the Leamside ran all the way to Darlo.Erm, the Leamside line is ^only^ 18 miles (give or take)... 35 miles is all the way from Newcastle to Darlington.

Tursdale. I walked every inch of the line in 2002 when we did a study into reopening it.
