It is a Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes service. We use neither of the terminal stations.

Nope.

The destination station has one of the four points of the compass in the name

Okay, try this one:

Clue 1 The originating station has three platforms
Clue 2 The destination station contains a boy's name within its name.
Clue 3 The train is a post-privatisation EMU
Clue 4 There are only two trains a day on Mondays to Fridays and one on Saturdays that make this journey direct.

Is the train a class 350?

The only journey that I can think off is Eastleigh - St Deny's on a Class 444, although there are other direct services provided by a 158.

Hmmm...

No it's not from Eastleigh to St Denys. The journey in question doesn't include that section of line at all in fact!
Clue: The train making the journey calls at the station which would have been Terry and June's local one in the TV sitcom.

CORRECTION: Sorry I got my sitcoms mixed up! It is actually the local station of the characters of 'The Good Life' that the train calls at en route.

Clue 1: The originating station 3 platforms.
Clue 2: The destination station has 3 platforms.
Clue 3: The journey is done on a BR DMU.
Clue 4: One of the stations, either origin or destination is in third rail land, the other is in diesel land.

Nope neither although gnolife is in the right part of the Country.

Also, Romsey only has 2 platforms.

Clue 5: This journey is rather infrequent, a more frequent service is available, although it requires one change.

No one know?

Do we need another clue? (If I'm allowed to give one?)

Nope, although one station is right, just wrong way round.

Clue 6: "This train is for Brighton"

Westbury to Hove, FGW 158?
Close.

Clue 7: The line splits in to four directions close to this station, one of which you have to reverse to get to after you have done this journey.

I can only think of Lewes, but there's no direct service from Westbury. I suppose you have Ford, but that only splits three ways. The reversal for Bognor would be at Barnham... Unless these services don't stop at Barnham and the answer is Ford, or vice versa :p

I wasn't looking for Ford.

I was actually thinking of Westbury to Barnham, when I said "the line splits in four directions close to this station", I was hoping this would be enough info, as you have the line to Bognor, Littlehampton, Horsham and Brighton, even though there is another station in between.

Sorry for misleading you.
