This journey starts at the first station on a single track line
This journey ends at a large, AC electrified station.
This journey switches between two forms of power at an intermediate station (AC, DC or diesel, I'm not stating which you need to consider)
This journey is only possible to do direct after sunset.

Does that third clue refer to the train you are travelling on or the route it is taking?

The destination station has direct service to two of the three capital cities on the island of Great Britain.

Motherwell is single track now??

Either the origin or the destination station is Scottish. The other one is English.

Yeah, apparently someone called David Cameron, reserved the other track as his second home.

I'll poach floor again then

This journey starts at a station where any loco-hauled services start/terminate.
This journey ends at an AC electrified terminal station.
This journey is Diesel.
We pass the NRM on the way.

Someone living near the origin station could, in theory, do this journey tomorrow.

There is some uncertainty regarding the future of the trains which run this service.

That may well be the case but Northern are still at present runnning services along that nominated section of route, so the entry by Trainfan344 is still worthy of consideration as an answer.

In following the games rules, when given the incorrect answer of Bishop Auckland to Darlo, I gave another clue, which referred to the rolling stock having an uncertain future.

I totally agree with what you say. It was just that I could not trace a posting at the time which said that Bishop Auckland to Darlington was an incorrect answer.
