Shouldn't we wait 5 minutes?

Yes, quote 'unless you can show otherwise'. I would contend that this move would not take five minutes. At most it will be crossing from one side of the road to the other. The next bus is on Monday morning.

If anybody is hesitating posting because they are awaiting an adjudication on this, please don't because this quiz is largely self-regulating (See page 1). So either play from

- Evreux Pole d'Echanges Jean Jaures at 1822 if you think my connection is valid

or

- Evreux Moliere at 1806 if you disagree - I won't take any offence!

Either way it's Sunday evening

Time to resuscitate this methinks. Clear... <shock>

I'll decide to accept the connection, since it's clearly the same bus that provides both services (i.e. the bus that goes into Evreux Moliere is the same one that leaves two minutes later), so it's very much possible.

Since Transurbain seem to operate a skeletal Sunday service, we return to SNCF at Gare d'Évreux-Normandie. We can take our time, as the next train is not until 19:20. It runs non-stop to Paris St Lazare, and arrives at 20:17 on Sunday evening.

With our heart set on mustard, we run and just make it onto TGV 6753, which leaves at 20:53. We take it to Dijon Ville, arriving at 22:35 on Sunday night.

Still a move to be had at this late hour.

TER94299 leaving at 2309 and alighting at Dole Ville where presumably jobs are particularly thin on the ground. The time now is 2337 on Sunday night.

I think that's us for the night, so we set up camp for the night. We board the first train of the morning, TER 894101 (Franche-Comté) at 05:40. We take the service to its terminus at Besançon-Viotte, arriving at 06:05 on Monday morning.

We take the 0633 line 3 bus from Besancon-Viotte station, operated by Ginko, to its terminus at Rivotte, arriving 0643 on Monday morning.

This gives us the chance to climb up to the Citadelle, from where there seem to be amazing views of the city built in the loop of a meander. Never heard of this place before, but it's on my to do list now!

I've never heard of it either. Looks interesting!

And more importantly for us, the bus network looks interesting too. From here, we await the Ginko 82 bus, which pulls up at 07:35. We travel to Montfoucon Centre, arriving at the scenic and apparently affluent village at 07:52 on Monday morning. (I have assumed that the schools are in for the purposes of this).

Nowhere really to go except back the other way sadly; so back on the Ginko 82 at 09:00; to Morre (Mairie) arriving at 09:08 ce lundi matin

There was also the 92 bus, BTW

We explore this small village whilst we await the train, which departs from the adjoining station at 09:47. We take the TER train numero 96413 for a short journey to Mamirolle, arriving at 09:56 on Monday morning.

Ah yes; so there was
We manage to find some Mamirolle cheese; invented by the École nationale d'industrie laitière in the village centre. Armed with this yellowy block of artery-clogging goodness; we board the aforementioned (and unfortunately overlooked) 92 bus from Mamirolle (Gare) to Saône (centre). Saône is the home town of everyone's second favourite permanently inebriated TV chef (and one of the few I don't find immensely irritating) Raymond Blanc. Emulating His Blanciness; we stagger off the bus with a slurred merci chauffeur at 10:55 this Monday morning.

Saône Gare is close to Route de Tarcenay (the dual carriageway); so; needing a legstretch; we make our way there and join the Mobidoubs Route A at 12:42; and after a lengthly ride through the eastern Franche-Comte we arrive in the small alpine town of Pontalier. Pontarlier has great personal significance for me for it was when I realised I probably enjoy food too much; for at the age of 7 I absent-midendly sat on a swing in the town and the chains sheared through and I landed directly on my bottom; much to the undisguised mirth of my parents/sister/nearby coach party of Czech tourists. Oh; sorry; this isn't my therapist's office. That may well be the most interesting thing that has ever happened in Pontarlier quite frankly (there may well be a gold statue of the event there now); and; with a quick exit in mind; we alight at the terminus at Pontarlier (Gare SNCF); at 13:54 this Monday afternoon

I do remember Hercule Poirot called himself 'Monsieur Pontarlier' once when he wanted to be incognito...

In a mastery of integrated planning, the bus to Switzerland leaves at 1353 (or it might be the same bus - seems too much of a coincidence), so we wait till 1501 for the SBB rail service to Neuchatel, arriving 1554 on Monday afternoon.

Ever wishing to make life difficult for ourselves, we board the transN petit train departing at 18:04. We are reluctant to leave La-Chaux-de-Fonds behind as it's
clearly the local big time, this highly rural metre gauge line even has a service leaving after midnight at weekends!
This service meanders her way along a wide valley before terminating at Les-Ponts-du-Martel at 18:28 this Monday evening
(As an aside some of the stations on this line are bizarrely sited, outside of the two large-ish villages en route there are some stops serving a handful of houses by the roadside, some situated alone in woodland, and one particularly surreal example next to a dual carriageway in the middle of nowhere with no buildings in sight, no bus stop, pavement or even lay by and still a heated shelter with departure board. Oh, Switzerland)

Sure we've been to Basel before but we haven't done something which returning to Basel affords us.

That is cross border trams.

Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) line 8 tram is the route we are after. We don't have long to wait as at 0013 we depart and crossing into Germany we alight at the terminus of Weil Am Rhein, Bahnhof/Zentrum at 0036 on Tuesday morning.

Source: reiseauskunft.bahn.de

I see here, even at this late hour there is a perfectly timed connection with a local train back into Basel. Buses also to be had or even wait for another tram back that way. Pretty good.

As you would expect for somewhere named after a disease, Weil isn't exactly jumping, so we take the train option, boarding the 00:41 RB to Basel (Badischer bf); arriving at 00:46 this Tuesday morning

There is one more tram available to us.

This line 6 tram takes us at 0057 to what we hope is some late night culture at Basel, Theater where we arrive 0108 on Tuesday morning.
