A short walk from the Metro to Los Heroes Bus Terminal allows us to take the Centropuerto bus to Santiago Airport. Buses leave every 10 mins and the journey can take 45 - 60 mins (according to Tripadvisor & other unofficial sources on-line).

Let's say we leave Los Heroes at 1930 and arrive at Santiago Airport at 2030 on Friday evening.

Always nice to cross the International dateline.

Heading now into the heart of Auckland, we take to the AT Metro and a Southern line train at 0725 to Britomart station arriving 0800 exactly on Sunday morning

We're allowed up to 1km walking in this game, so we take the 1.0km / 13 minute stroll to Auckland's Sky City Coach Terminal.

Here we board InterCity coach IC6501, departing at 0900, arriving at Wellington Central Railway Station at 2020 Sunday evening.
(Not bad value - nearly 11½ hrs of travel for around £16. However Google suggests you can drive it in 7½ hours, so maybe involves a trip "around the houses")

Since we're playing on Rail UK Forums here, it would be nice to make our onward move by train on KiwiRail's Coastal Pacific to Christchurch. This would involve waiting at Picton until 1315, so in the spirit of not hanging around when there are earlier options, it's back on the buses.

We take InterCity coach IC 8712, leaving Picton Ferry Terminal at 0940, arriving Christchurch Bus Exchange (Lichfield St) at 1525 Monday afternoon.

Just a short wait here for Metro bus City, 29 at 1535 to Christchurch International Airport arriving 1610 on Monday afternoon

Short though our stay was in Christchurch we are still able to see the scars from the 2011 earthquake. If we return here in this game, it may not be for some time. What with the whole world to explore but I'm guessing things might look different the next time as the massive rebuild continues.

We take Air New Zealand flight NZ5338 leaving at 1730, arriving in Wellington at 1830 Monday evening.

Why did I bring us back here? Wellington has some interesting public transport with trolleybuses* (planned to be scrapped in 2017) and a 100km system of 1500V DC suburban electric trains, which may be worth a look. Of course the next move is at the total discretion of the next person to post!
* - apparently the last in the world operating in a country which drives on the left side of the road

Well Springs Branch your in luck. We can get straight onto a trolleybus.

Bang on our 1 km limit is the bus stop of Broadway at Crawford Green. Due to us being on a domestic flight and being also a free spirit, thus having no need of material possessions - just a need for public transport travel, we can make the next trolleybus after landing, which is...

The Metlink no. 11 leaving at 1859 and travelling into the heart of Wellington. Arriving at Wellington station (Stop D) at 1933 on Monday evening

Source: metlink.org.nz

Now for that 100 km of suburban 1500V DC railways?

Another of Tranz Metro's lines can be chalked off.

We admire this large station and take the first available departure.
This is the 2205 Hut Valley Line service to Upper Hutt where we arrive at 2250 on Monday night

Yes that's the one I saw. So do we proceed from Waterloo anyway, for the sake of convenience?

Four trains in the hour from here bound for Wellington. Two expresses and two stoppers. We're after a stopper. Seeing one depart a minute after our arrival we sit and wait, watching an express depart in the meantime.

Then we board the 0640 and travel as far as Petone arriving there at 0656 on Tuesday morning

Nicely placed move for some ferry action.

We haven't long to wait, so admire the scenery and at 0745 we depart on East by West ferry service across Wellington Harbour to Queens Wharf where we arrive at 0805 on Tuesday morning

Cable car is within walking distance, if anyone's stuck for choice on the next move. Always welcome some cable car travel

How can I resist? We take the 450m walk to the cable car stop at Lambton Quay, which takes us about 7 minutes) and board a train at 08:20. It takes us to the top, Kelburn Cable Car Station, Wellington, South Island, New Zealand at 08:25 on Tuesday morning.

(There appears to be no set timetable, so I've assumed that the 10 minute frequency has trains leaving the terminus at xx: x0. The journey appears to take about 5 minutes.)
