We have plenty of time to connect to a longer distance railway service here in Melbourne, and leaving "The World's Most Livable City" behind, we embark on a rail journey to New South Wales courtesy of V-Line. The service leaves Southern Cross at 07:05am. Our train takes us to Albury, NSW, Australia, where we arrive at 10:55 on Friday morning.

We've managed to cover a fair variety of the public transport in Victoria in not much time - trams, buses, ferries, metro EMUs, regional DMUs and loco-hauled country trains (on both broad & standard gauge). So lets move on northwards into NSW .....

From Albury we take the 1149 NSW TrainLink XPT train (a HST look-a-like), alighting at Campbelltown at 1909 Friday evening.

--- Edit ----
BTW it's only about 4 hours Melbourne/Albury - we arrived in Albury on Friday morning.

Ooh just missed a train to Canberra. Really wanted to go there. Maybe we can try our luck at the airport.

We haven't long to wait till a Sydney Trains operated T2 line service departs at 1917 and takes us to Sydney Domestic Airport station arriving 2005 on Friday evening

Oops... yes we did . Duly edited.

We can catch a local T2 train at 19:42, which takes us closer to Sydney City Centre. We take the train as far as Lidcombe, NSW, Aus; arriving at 20:34 on Friday evening.

Being stuck at the domestic terminal(s) at this time of night leaves us with not many choices. We would struggle to make the last flight to Canberra. By contrast, the International side of the airport is a hub of activity.

We get onboard Tigerair Australia's 21:50 flight TR761 to Perth, Australia, which touches down at 23:50 on Friday night.

Tiger fly into Terminal 2 at PER, so we have the option of a Route 380 bus and luckily these keep running into the early hours.

We take the 0020 Route 380 bus towards the city, getting off at Great Eastern Highway, Cornwall St at 0035 Saturday morning.

We're in luck as we are still able to get some train travel in, even at this late hour (early hour?).

We stroll over to nearby Burswood station where we admire the nearly completed Perth Stadium and at 0109 we catch a Transperth Armadale line service to Cannington arriving at 0120 on Saturday morning

Whilst looking for travel options at this time of night in Perth, I did come across some interesting information. Transperth say any weekend late train (between 0000 and 0300) is FREE.
That might be a first in this game?

Sadly free or not, it appears we have arrived at Perth station just too late for any quick connections. So we'll have wait for...

Transperth's Fremantle line departure at 0528 to that very place Fremantle arriving 0555 on Saturday morning

Perth has a long circular bus route around the suburbs, starting at Fremantle and taking around 3½ hours for a full circuit.

We take the first clockwise departure of Transperth's Route 98 at 0640, going over ¾ of the way around, arriving Murdoch Railway Station at 0934 Saturday morning.

Most trains from Mandurah seem to run through to the northern side of Perth. So, after a bit of a look around the newish underground station, we board the next Joondalup line train towards Butler, leaving at 1300 and alight at Joondalup at 1325 Saturday afternoon.

We have some time to explore the adjoining shopping centre and stock up on supplies until we catch the TransPerth 467 bus at 14:15. It takes us to a stop at Dundebar Road (after Civic Drive), Wanneroo, WA, Australia. We arrive at 15:01 on Saturday afternoon.

Says to walk to Dundebar Road, before Civic Drive which takes 1 minute then...

At 1507 we board Transperth bus number 389 and travel to its terminus of Roe Street Bus Station arriving at 1555 on Saturday afternoon

We head back to the rails by taking the short half a kilometre walk to the railway station, and take the short journey to Burswood Station by boarding the 16:21 Transperth Thornlie Line train. We arrive at 16:29 on Saturday afternoon.

It's a 400m walk to the bus stops on the Great Eastern Highway, and then it's a ten minute wait for the no. 40 bus to Brearley Av Before Miller Rd (outside Perth Airport T4), arriving at 1709 Saturday afternoon.

I can't post a move right now, but a quick piece of local's advice ....

At Perth airport, T1 & T2 are separated by quite a distance from T3 & T4, involving a significant bus transfer between the two sets of terminals (a real nuisance when you've just arrived long-haul from UK or Europe).

We have arrived at the bus stop outside T3 / T4, so any flight now taken should depart from either T3 or T4 (alternatively the move could be to use the inter-terminal bus - or go back towards Perth!).

Thanks for the heads up Springs Branch. Does seem to be a feature of Australian airports.
Although I notice from Perth Airport's website that a new domestic section has been added to T1. So it seems they trying at least to spread the different flights between the terminals. Domestic flights at any rate.

Having looked at the options for flights from T3 and T4, I think we'll give T1 and T2 a chance.

Airport website says bus takes 10 minutes, and one leaves at twenty past the hour.

So its aboard the airport terminal shuttle bus leaving at 1720 and arriving at Perth Airport T1/T2 at 1730 on Saturday evening

I would like to explore Singapore but trying to find a journey planner for the MRT is torturous, plus its the wee small hours so easier to keep moving if on a long haul flight through the night. With that in mind we notice a few departures and select...

KLM 836 departing at 0130 to Amsterdam Schiphol, The Netherlands where we arrive at 0800 on Sunday morning

Just use Google Maps. That's what I do most of the time :)

Anyway, we are back in Europe. So we decide to board a bus. After a quick checkout, a 300 bus turns up, so we board it at 0835, to alight at Hoofddorp, Bornholm - the time now being 0853 on Sunday morning.

Of course how silly of me. I do prefer a website though. Well I'm using Google maps for this move.

We await the next Haarlem bound 300. Ten minute frequency on this route even on a Sunday. So at 0903 we board another 300 and alight at Haarlem Railway Station at 0928 on Sunday morning.

We could get a bus from outside the station but it's only 550 Metres on foot, so we take a Sunday morning stroll to Zandvorst Busstation.

Here we board at 1010 a Connexxion number 80 service to Amsterdam Busstation Elandsgracht taking exactly one hour, thus reaching our destination at 1110 on Sunday morning
