Unless the job is safety critical, don't expect to hear back for a while. Excluding drivers, sadly.[/QUOTE]

Forgive me, I cant work out the double negative my proper English is poor so rather than deciphering I will just ask a question.

Will the trainee drivers in the talent pool be affected?

All sounds a little strange to me - no further recruitment but you only have to take a look at the GTR website to see a number of current vacancies being advertised.

A driver friend based in Bedford hasn't heard anything along those lines & is making further enquiries.

They cant be in a external freeze a) there was an advert yesterday or the day before for trainee drivers for Brighton

Agreed, the Brighton advert only went live a couple days ago for more Trainee Drivers, so i'm sure if that was the case then it would not have been given the go ahead for being advertised.
Me and MickyB89 who are both waiting for courses, have a friend who's a current driver for GTR so could ask him as well.

I really wouldnt be taken in by this nonsense.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Internally there may well be a freeze on moving around within the company due to the recent merger, to allow for things to settle down. However this will have no bearing on the train drivers recruitment process and the future plans Gtr have for them. I know its hard but people shouldnt be listening and taken in by this ridiculous scare mongering.

Really? A GTR employee just happens upon a longstanding thread and his first post to the forum is telling us all that recruitment is frozen? Methinks we are being trolled. TBH I'd rather hear it from HR myself. DBS told me that recruitment was frozen.

Firstly, apologies for that bad grammar. 0400 is a bad time to be both awake and coherent.

If you have been given a start date then I don't see how that would be a problem as it would have to be already included and agreed in the budget. If you've had no word about a start date and you're in the 'talent pool' then expect a long wait. Its also been rumoured that they've hired too many drivers, particularly on the GN route. Railway rumours hold no great stead though.

Believe me, I have better things to do that write sh*t about the company that pays my wages, but that was in a brief that was given across the network this week and I know how rubbish it is to wait for a job. They are allowed to advertise, with closing dates. They'll simply close the job on the closing date then, when they have authority, they'll start an interview process. They don't care how long it will take though. People have had interviews for jobs internally, effectively got the jobs, but can't go any further with it due to the freeze. Its internal and external. For all roles. Except safety critical dispatch/platform staff.

You don't have to believe me, but I made an account to share this information with you. I have no reason to lie to anybody. Once you're in the railway as far as I'm concerned, you're part of the family.

But I'd wait for Abellio driver vacancies!

Call HR then, they'll have to confirm it if asked. They just would have been told to not publicly advertise it.

If you need a contact number, just let me know!

Thanks on your response but rather than reading to much in to rumour and conjecture I will wait to hear from the people who are really in the know, and encourage all others in my position to do thte same.

Thanks for the offer but I already have contact numbers for HR. Also, I don't really need to phone anyone. As I'm quite capable of following an instruction (ie "Please wait to hear from us") then I'm more than happy to wait. As far as I'm concerned, I'm in the middle of a due process. Based on information that I have received from HR, I'm not really expecting to be 'progressed' until next year. As I have neither been promised, offered or otherwise implied a guarantee of employment with GTR, then I see nothing to get excited about at the moment. If I've jumped through hoops for nothing then that's too bad - It's nothing that I haven't done before.

You are saying there's a recruitment freeze while we are seeing people being called and offered course start dates and contracts going out.

Doesn't add up mate

HR only recently sent emails saying a large number of courses are planned next year, new trains are coming so whos gna drive the new trains which will increase the capacity which the current workforce cannot support due to driver shortages

I work for gtr, I haven't heard anything about a freeze at all, however I do know that things are not great for gtr at the moment as they don't have much money at al, there are lots or rumours going around within the company but I wouldn't take any as concrete

I hope so too. I can't see it being true. People are still being given start dates.

Maybe I am wrong but I do hope it is still rumors only.

The person who raised this is a disgruntled employee by the looks of it whos not happy with GTR and their INTERNAL procedures, but he has put doubt into our minds which really has annoyed me... Did anyone speak to HR about this?

Just last week i spoke to them and they confirmed that the plans are still the same and theyl contact us once they have a date.

I'm not particularly disgruntled. I enjoy my job, I get paid well and have my pension to look forward to. I haven't applied for another job since getting my current job over 3 years ago. The information that I stated was provided to me by another manager within the company during a briefing. There is a recruitment freeze for non safety critical staff. This has also been confirmed by union reps who were present in the meeting.

So the policies and procedures I have no qualms with. GTR have run out of money and are suffering. I don't know how long the freeze will be for and after some of the unsubstantiated claims made against myself by you 'orrible lot, I'm loathe to tell you when I find out myself.

Sorry for trying to help with your queries as to why you haven't heard back. I thought this was a friendly forum but obviously you all take great pleasure in attacking someone providing news you don't like.

Drivers and engineers and dispatch staff are all safety critical roles FYI.

Mate I think you may have been taken out of context, all the people on here have applied for trainee driver roles which you say are safety critical. Therefore if I'm reading it right then a freeze on non safety critical staff wouldn't affect trainee drivers?? Question not an accusation.cheers for any reply

If "Drivers and engineers and dispatch staff are all safety critical" then aren't we ok ? After all everyone in the pool is applying for trainee train driver

Thanks. Yeah I probably was taken out of context. I was under the impression this was a talent pool for all future employees, not just trainee drivers.

Trainee train drivers salaries were budgeted for so there shouldn't be any problems, although some of you may have to wait a lot longer than anticipated before your course starts.

Where does it say drivers thread? As an interviewing manager when we refer to talent pools, we mean everyone interviewed who passed the stages of assessment.
