I'm a serving Police Officer with Northants Police, 7 years in. Unfortunately a lot has changed for the worse and there are no signs of improvement. I could go on about my reasons for leaving but don't find it appropriate to post on here, but I'm sure you'll understand being in the job yourself!

I chose to be a train driver because I love travel, and most aspects of it. My father worked on the railways when I was a child, which sparked my interest in the railways. The salary, pension, benefits and hours are very attractive along with job security. I have no issues with working alone and I think I will be well suited to the job.

I just hope it's not too long now, I am extremely eager to get started.

I can honestly say that leaving the police after 6years was the best decision I ever made and i look forward to my eventual career as a train driver. Like most would say the job isn't what it used to be and general morale is so low I'm surprised more haven't left....

I currently work within the railway industry so have gained some knowledge on the workings of the day to day running. I understand there will be numerous courses this year and next to make up for the natural wastage and transfers and I'm sure we will all hear soon enough.

I'm sure it won't be too long until we hear from them. They do need drivers and its just a matter of time.

I now know i will not be receiving a date until next year.
I spoke to them today as i am looking to book holiday in the next few weeks and did not want to miss a medical notification.
I believe that anyone in the talent pool who has still not completed their medical, will not be doing so until the new year.
All those who have already had theirs i would assume are in the first wave of recruits and should be allocated dates this year.
Please don't quote me on this, i'm just passing on information that may be comforting to the guys still waiting for medicals.
The uplifting bit of news is that i was told if your in the pool you will be offered a position. When is another matter, but it will happen.
At least now i can crack on with my current role without checking my emails every half hour.

Yeah thanks for that. Pretty much what I was told a month or so ago. It's nice to hear that someone else was also told that it's not a case of if , but when .

This is great news I was planning on phoning them today when I had a spare 5 minutes but in my job you never get 5 minutes let alone a lunch break

The burning question remains will we (those already in the pool) be getting on any courses in October if they are indeed running any in October

Tight for notice at the start of October but they never specified when in October they would be running the courses , it may not even be til the end. No doubt trainers would want a little leave between courses?

If we have not heard by the end of the second week then it must be a non starter for October. I would not hand my notice in until I have signed a contract and I guess they will contact us first

Why is it not feasible they may start a course 4th week in Oct, thus notifying people 4th week of Sept?

Well done mate you must be overchuffed

Who rang you?

Claire had emailed asking that I call her as I had no phone signal. I called her up and she said a course has come up at Peterborough. I only live 25 minutes down the road and that was my first choice :)

I've just had a call with Claire and..... it was a no I'm holding out for Bedford i've worked for for Tesco, 13 years and now at 29 just cant be dealing with long commutes to work and 13 hour days on top. She was pretty understanding and said she'd be in contact shortly.
