Tell me about it, I go past it twice a day and have been waiting for this moment. As usual there was a Shed there today but no number because it's behind the loader...
I'd go to York for it. I can take one of my kids over to see their grandparents for the day and cash in on the Family Railcard saving
Bloody skips though. I'd rather have a shed, especially as I was on the CFPS tour on Saturday that turned into the largest unplanned skipfest in recent memory.

You'll be lucky, I've only recently gotten my 18th one and I've been scooping them when possible for over 3 years!
Would love to do this tour personally, that bit to Rylstone is hugely required. Sadly, I'm having to pass as I just can't manage to find the finances to do it.
As for it being expensive, well for the mileage perhaps, but one must also bear in mind it's two locos being hired in and there's no doubt plenty of ching involved with the freight-only track.

A definate one for me. 121 miles and 42 chains return from York give or take a bit with the reversal. That makes it approximately 19p per mile.
I'm not the biggest fan of skips but its a sensible choice with the tour coming from London. A photo break at the waurry would have been nice but chance for piccies at Skipton is all good.

Is the photo call at Skipton on the return journey? If so, I could bail there rather than go all the way back to York. OTOH that'd put the cost/mile right up (although I'm not that interested in maximising skip mileage TBH), and a single Saltaire > York + single Skipton > Saltaire would probably be no cheaper than a Day Return Saltaire > York.

That would make it 32p per mile...
Looking at it this way, a return from York - Skipton is £11.15 with a railcard, so it is doube that for different stock and a branch I've never done. Time to book methinks.
Look at it another way, without a railcard a return from Leeds to York is £9 something anyway, so for the extra, you get to go more than twice the distance, plus some non passenger line!! Does anyone know if the rolling stock will be Mk 1's?
Going back to my original question, when was the last time a charter ran up the branch if anyone knows? I haven't been doing railtours for too long but somone has said they've been on four before so I'm guessing it is not a rare event?
1st time on a pair of 156's on some special event at skipton station in 96, then 2nd & 3rd times with top & tail Class 56's in Dec 2000 and Nov 2003. Dont know if anything been up since, but would be surprised if there hasnt.

A pair of 67s was up earlier in the year with a "Posh-ex".
GNERman and Myself are now booked.
I would have thought stock will be a mix of Mk2s (ex-VT) and the odd Mk1s (Probably for catering)...
Another way of looking at it would be that Spitfire's Capital Deltic from Preston to the Cross via Leeds and back was £49.

The fact is you are paying a premium for rare track. But in the end that's what it is. Its whether the mark of the red pen on this section is worth £22.50 - In my case yes and it will help in my frantic bid to get 9000+ miles this year

Very true (although in my case it's a pencil). It won't really contribute much to your 9,000 miles.
