But Peterborough was never part of Network SouthEast...

It might as well have been to the average passenger, as NSE liveried 317s (and for that matter 365s) were a regular sight at Peterborough.

I don't think NSE would ever have introduced something as unpleasant and uncomfortable as a class 700 though.

I don't see what is confusing about 'Thameslink'

'Thameslink' will simply gain more routes and will become a much larger operation than previously with all of the routes going through the core.

Not confusing at all.

...not only that but it's been obvious for years that was what would happen, despite the various iterations of the Thameslink 'route map'.

Trying to decide whether or not Class 700s used on the GN for a fairly short period (approaching 12 months) will have Thameslink or Great Northern logos displayed is a bit of a side issue. Once the routes are linked (mid 2018) they will definitely read "Thameslink".

Are all the Blackfriars-Sevenoaks workings still 319s on a Saturday, as I'm hoping to grab one or two on Thameslink this afternoon? :)

Peterborough continues to be tantalisingly just outside the Network Railcard area (along with Ipswich)- it wouldn't be that hard to bring it in but make it not valid on VTEC. Which is a digression.

Thameslink is fine for branding, aren't all Class 700 services going to be ones through the core? The core is Thameslink. Hell, on the GN it'll be a useful indicator that the train is going to St Pancras not Kings Cross.

The arguement put forward by BR just prior to the start of the Great Northern
service extension to Peterborough in 1987 was that if Peterborough got NSE fares/railcard to go with the NSE trains then Grantham passengers would want NSE fares/railcard as well.

Bizarre logic as to my knowledge NSE trains have never ran a service to Grantham:roll:

Well how does one account for Exeter Central and Worcester being in the Network Card area?

I on' think either we're in it originally but we're added at a later date (probably as a way of increasing passenger numbers)

Exeter Central certainly didn't have trains to London provided by Intercity, what about Worcester? But having said that, this may have been something which has changed over time, as I'm sure I recall Pinhoe being the boundary at some point.

I presume the situation at Peterborough would have been that Intercity would have objected, being the primary operator.

Were there any "NSE only" type fares from Peterborough to London at the time? Certainly my recollection is the NSE Peterborough service was more aimed at users from the intermediate stations rather than people making Peterborough-London journeys.

It doesn't help with capacity today that WAGN/FCC/GN have all offered cheaper fares for Peterborough-London journeys, taking up capacity on their trains to the detriment of users from intermediate stations, whilst the GNER/NXEC/EC/VTEC services often arrive in London with some free seats. Isn't privatisation wonderful?!

The fares were the same between Peterborough and London whether you travelled on a 317 or a Class 91. This soon changed after Privatisation.

Thanks for the info. How many / what diagrams will that leave as 377? I believe I saw 3 maybe 4 pairs of them out last week.

There's one which stops at elephant gets in to blackfriars around 9 which has. Been a 377 for a long time.. Surprising in a way as it's often very busy

Not long now till all 700s.. Very. Nearly there not sure when green southern units stop being used

Another new fault to me today with the PIS - the two screens were completely mismatched (e.g. showing toilet key with the calling pattern and 'Destination' with the train loading). Anyone else seen this before?

Also of note was the TfL update heading appearing, but no slide for the actual information...

New one for me this morning on 700003, the right hand display crashed and rebooted - the screen was black and had a circular spinning animation on it for a minute or so before it reappeared with the correct information...

I remember getting as far as Exeter St Davids on one of the Network Days so it must have been at some time.
Milton Keynes also had IC services but NSE tickets were valid on both unles the trains were specifically marked as U or S in the timetable. MK is of course prime commuter territory, - as Peterborough is now or will be soon!

I had a couple of good ones a couple of weeks ago, one had a horn icon on the left screen and in the right it said take care as many slippery surfaces, on a bright sunny day with not a cloud in the sky!
The other, all the PIS said do not board this train it is not in service, throughout the journey!

I remember those vividly, in particular the 1986 (the first?) one. Hell at a fiver for a day's unlimited travel anywhere in the south east of England, who wouldn't remember it!! ;)
