TSGN no longer plan to convey passengers and will be exclusively serving the press between Blackfriars and East Croydon for the foreseeable future.
And that won't even include the Prime Minister, who will also be forced to seek alternative travel arrangements....

...by the way, screw you guys as I've got a union issued press card! ;)

just recieved a staff brief.

TAttenhams and caterhams will now not be included in the Thameslink proposals from 2018.

A Luton to Rainham via Dartford service will be introduced instead.

I guess this clears up some lesser stock requirements at Southeastern, and accounts for SOuthern needing the 377/5s.

So would Hatfield, WGC etc not be served by off-peak Thameslink services?

Cambridge to Maidstone East via London Bridge.

Yes.

All day services will be Cambridge - London (you know, Foxton, Ashwell, Welwyn North, Hatfield etc) will be provided 2tph. The peak time there will be the 2tph Welwyn Garden - London fast from New Southgate to Finsbury.

I also understand Maidstone East - Cambridge Via LBG will be an all day runner now... Good to see the SE routes actually benefiting from this now...

Also, the Luton - Rainham services should run via Greenwich to provide stations along that route an alternative to just Cannon Street.

Regarding the withdrawal of plans for the Tattenham/Caterham Thameslink services. I had wondered in the past why the Southern was favoured so much in the Thameslink plans. Good for me though. But it did occur to me that it would make the service through the core more resilient if fewer routes South of the Thames fed into the core. Bang goes that theory then !. I am also left wondering whether this makes the Bermondsey dive-under less of an advantage ?.

Its a bit like the Sutton/Wimbledon loop services that were to terminate at Blackfriars now being allowed to cross over to the through platforms for access to the core. That made the re-arranging of the through platforms at Blackfriars less of a benefit.

With my conspiracy theory engine starting up I realise eventually it will be decided that the Sutton/Wimbledon loop services will revert to terminating at Blackfriars to the benefit of Tattenham/Caterham. That would simplify risk but I suppose the current dividing/joining at Purley might be more attractive (I mean its not going to happen with 8-car 700s).

As someone has mentioned on another thread, it paves the way for Tattenham and Caterham to be part of the TfL plans now.

What i think this does do though is decrease the spare capacity at London Bridge (terminating platforms) as the All day Tatts and peak Cats will now have to use platforms 10-16.

Yeh i expect the dividing and joining at purley to remain, which is sensible really.

There is mention in the brief also of MAJOR alterations to the southern metro timetable including new routes, increased frequency and better turnaround times... once again i think this paves the way for TfL to take over.

Yep, Rainham via Abbey Wood, Greenwich, Dartford and Rochester.

Oh yes, of course, I forgot all about the TfL plans !. I was ignoring them until they were more solid. You're so right about the capacity re terminating platforms at London Bridge. Although perhaps, instead, there will be capacity through to Charing Cross with a few less North Kent line services going there ?. Not sure what that does to capacity on the Eastern approaches to London Bridge though.

Do these changes make any difference to the number of trains serving Elephant & Castle post 2018?

I think it actually means the Bermondsey dive under will get more use than planned, because in the most recent proposals there were no services planned to run from Thameslink through London Bridge onto the Southeastern route. The northern of the four tracks through the dive under would have been almost redundant on the franchise award version of the 2018 route map.

There have been so many timetable versions I can't recall the dates of all the changes, but a Thameslink service through London Bridge towards the SE routes was in most earlier plans and fell out not that long ago, indeed originally the ratio between London Bridge and Elephant & Castle was different, at 18:6, rather than the recent 16:8...

At one stage back when the Wimbledon loop was out of the question I'm sure there were 10 services from Southeastern origins and 14 from Southern origins.

I'd love to see how that works in the timetable around Spa Road / North Kent East Junctions.

(Sarcasm filter /Off)

It should mean the Bricklayers Arms ramp gets used?

PS - I've asked the mods if all this recent timetable discussion should be moved to the similar thread that is developing in the right forum...

Wouldnt the Luton to Rainham service be easier to run via Hithet Green & Sidcup to bring it in line with other Datford routes with 6tph. Also can the Greenwich services even cross over to Thameslink tracks once the works are complete

Its interesting that its a joint GTR/SE proposal to the DfT/NR.

Almost like Govia have rather too much control of the London rail network ;)

8tph (OFF PEAK)

...
St Albans to Sutton (via Wimbledon)
St Albans to Wimbledon (via Sutton)

Does these running to St Albans rather than Luton mean that Harpenden, Luton Airport Parkway and Luton lose out on trains they previously had?
