Not without major changes coming in first. They still operate a compulsory first class provision on routes covered by intercity operators, which Thameslink is in 2 places. This is a hang over from BR days but is still the reason 1st has to be provided. Plus, as said above, 1 st class is a BIG money maker and a lot of people use first class on the TL route, especially From stations in Sussex, Surrey and Cambridgeshire.

Yes, on AC until it returns south of the river on Friday night (but, like everything, subject to change!).
700106 ran tonight, saw it reversing at Kentish Town. Loads of black tape on the exterior.

She left the home depot on Monday night and is staying at Cricklewood for a weeks AC testing. Tomorrow (well technically tonight) she'll be taking me on my first 700 ride.

Was there another train moving in the background? If there wasn't it sounds quite a bit different from a 350, 360 or 380 under the wires
This was the only train at the station when it left.

It was only moving relatively slowly wasn't it? In which case perhaps the usual steps in the frequency of the traction noise (as speed increases) wouldn't be occurring in the same way as a normal departure?

Not until next year at the earliest. I'd imagine that testing will commence once Hornsey Thameslink depot and the Canal Tunnels have been commissioned.

Oh er wierd. Near the end of the video, as the train passes the houses and is reflected in the windows, the vegetation reflected in the windows is also moving

It doesn't sound like the traction motors that the Desiro City seem to have - then again why would they use a different sound for the video?
Because the video isn't supposed to be an accurate recording of the train, as you might expect from Armstrong Powerhouse, but more of an artistic piece! They managed to convey the standard Desiro UK 'UFO' IGBT noise, and that's about all they needed to do!
I think that in Julian G's video, the train was accelerating on a very limited throttle setting, which meant that the UFO warble didn't kick in. Did sound more like a 'standard' IGBT system as fitted to electrostars though!

There was a unit nearby as you can tell from the door pings.
As for standard Desiro sounds, if you listen to my video I posted of 700107 arriving at Brighton you get the standard Desiro UK sound. For reference here's the link again...

I took a video of it arriving into the station.
When I was filming the departure I did actually wonder what that noise was and it definitely sounded like it was coming from the 700 as there was no other train at the station at the time.

Interesting, very interesting. It would seem that on AC then, they sound a bit different. It would seem that when on DC they use something akin to the classical Desiro UK system, but have something more like the European Desiro system under AC

There is a horrible high pitch noise that comes from under the pan coach, must be the transformer heard it yesterday when walking past 700106 at Cricklewood.

Yes, spied 700106 going southbound at Farringdon on Friday night (pictures are rubbish but I'll upload them if you like) and my friend is sure 700107 was the train we saw at TBD station the same night which went into the depot.
Please do share. Was surprised at how early it left Cricklewood and was getting much earlier on arrival to Three Bridges.

Yes, it was 21E through Farringdon but I wasn't complaining, meant I got home half an hour earlier after a very long evening!

Indeed, there were I think six test engineers and they were certainly well fed and watered [emoji3] very seat was in the wrap though and I was too interested in the train itself to get better photos of standard.
