At the request of various posters, this thread has now been reopened to discuss TfW Class 150 withdrawals. A new thread is therefore no longer required.

That is not true. C4 are mileage based. C6 are based on dates.

Simplistically C4 looks after running gear, couplers, gangways, doors and systems that have cycled however many times per mile.

C6 covers the mechanical structure and installations that degrade over time largely independently of distance travelled.

Note, that if much of your operation is exposed to sea-spray this will accelerate corrosion and other degradation.

That can and does happen - C6 extensions can be carried out, it requires a survey of the vehicle. There will be a point however where nobody will agree to sign another extension without the work being completed.
That sounds reasonable enough. Does anyone here know whether TfW are currently doing surveys and C6 extensions where applicable to avoid the cost of having to do the extensive corrosion repairs on their outgoing units to help 'tide them over' until the electric Metro fleets can be brought into service?

Nope.
As soon as a unit is due C6 it goes for scrap/storage/for sale.

RTT is showing a move from Canton to Landore today for 150227 and 150230.

This was them both yesterday afternoon down by the Pullman workshop on the Cardiff side. 227 minus branding and 230 still with branding (Photos taken from Position of Safety)

Yes they are so far
227, 230, 236, 237, 281 withdrawn
242 & 279 still away from craven arms
Thanks a lot.
Going to try and get over to Wales for a 4 day stint hunting them down in December (I know, lovely time for a trip away :D ) so hopefully the rest cling on until the end of the year

Unsure if TfW really are able to let them all go by December, there won't be enough of the newer ones in! Not to mention the 398s being delayed again!

I think there is no chance of the 150s all going by December. I think there are quite a few booked working for them still in the December timetable.

Yeah I thought so, sure you'll have 756s and 231s on the valleys, but that won't be enough to get rid of all of em! 398s are required to give them a final kick and move the 231s out of there!

Great to see it back in action, I imagine the C6 isn’t running out any time soon on that one if they are getting it back out?

So presumably these are the carriages not damaged in the respective incidents with the 2 units?
Are the remaining carriages from them now officially formed under 150242?
Believe that was the idea that the least damaged would return first.
Yes, 242 is now showing as 52242+57279

The off lease ones are going to Sims in Newport. 150236 and 150281 have gone already.
That actually does make me a bit sad. I was working on the CVL in and out of a depot office on the Merthyr Line, and developed a strange fondness for the 150s! (not a popular opinion, I know!)

When did they go?
150281 was on 14th August. 150236 a few weeks later. I don't have the exact date but digging through Railways in South Wales or the Sprinter page on Facebook will probably give you the answer.

On a happier note I think it was DilligantDave that had posted that both the two scrapped 150s surrendered many parts that will keep the rest of the Northern fleet going for the next few years. They will live on in the north in what ever way.
