67008 has failed at Holyhead this evening whilst shunting HD07, with a coolant leak. Nothing in or out of Holyhead at the moment as it’s across the points.

Is there any feeling for how many Mk4 sets will be available tomorrow.

I understand this means that 67008 and HD07 is uncertain for the Holyhead start.

The 08:53 from Cardiff appears to be a 197 (197120 showing on RTT), which would suggest that one of the Mk4s from Crewe is not going to make it out.

1W11 is also not a Mk4, but also has an empty Standard Premium which makes it a good start to a Monday.

They do seem to have a Mk4 on 1W13 though, so there was indeed one Cardiff set out this morning.

All this does mean that 1W12 is only a 2-car 197. Glad I am not on that one today.

67008 dropped it's coolent.

Looks like only 2 out of 5 diagrams today. I think this is the worst its been in quite a while. Its resulted in a quite a few South Wales-Manchester running as 3 or even 2 cars today.

Availability has certainly been dreadful for the past week or so, coming after a really good spell too. Tomorrow should see 3 and a half diagrams, likely 4 for the rest of this week and back to 5 next.

Current stauts are:
HD01 back in service tomorrow
HD02 In service
HD03 Severe wheelflats. Heading for new wheelsets and Investigation at Crewe ETD
HD04 In service
HD05 Heavy exam and lighting/electrical upgrades
HD06 Bell/Buzzer issues that haven't been rectified at Canton now moved to Crewe ETD
HD07 Loco coolant leak, back in service tomorrow afternoon with a different loco

The short forms aren't just because of Mk4s, 197s are suffering too and are well short of where they need to be. Leaf fall hasn't really helped the situation despite more lathes coming into use

As a matter of interest, each Mk4 that is missing requires a 197. That splits a planned 197 pairing. So with 3 197s covering Mk4, that would mean 3 pairs are running as singles. With the pairs every 2 hours I think it means they are only 1 197 short of being able to run all pairs without the Mk4 needing covering?

If so it seems a bit harsh to blame 197 availability for the issues?
