Could you provide a link? I have a 16-25 railcard - if that is applicable I'll likely upgrade.
I think I've found the fare as £14.50 with 16-25 railcard.

As you've found it is tucked away at the bottom of the listing under "Other Fares".
It also confusingly refers to Manchester-Cardiff (meaning the entire route served) and "Not normally available for purchase".

67017 was due a loco exam at Canton overnight but wasn't able to be done so is being done at Crewe during the day. Its going back out later to get to Canton.

HD04 should be back tomorrow for the 5th set and HD06 should be available from Wednesday following tyre turning.

Fingers crossed for me then! I’m booked on the 1653 Cardiff to Piccadilly this Wednesday and really don’t fancy a 2 car 197 for the trip.

Apart from the quieter carriage, and larger seats, you’ll get free tea/coffee/hot choc/orange juice, and access to the menu (additional cost for food) although that train you’re booked on is usually only the Light Bites menu rather than the full course dinner menu, so just sandwiches, hot baps etc

Today at Crewe depot (3/2/25):

67029 connected to HD04

67016 connected to HD07

67017 connected to HD01 which left to go on 1W59 and replace the 197.

RTT shows there are 2 diagrams that are 197s today. The 0435 and 0853 from Cardiff (unless they are being swapped later?). Seems to be not such a good week this week so far considering the last couple of weeks have been good.

No, class 197s do not have first class they're all standard. However if you get 113-126 they have a declassified "standard premium".

Catering trolley is route dependent.

If you do end up with a 197 you should still end up wit a catering trolley as they work down on the 12:30 from Manc Picc. The trolley will leave at Shrewsbury through, as the Manchester hosts have nowhere to store trolleys/food at Picc as present. Show your tickets to the host should this happen as you’re still entitled to a hot drink/snack and you can get your refund back to a standard ticket online.
