TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

The MK4's return to normal today however I see there is something that has become very very rare these days on the Cardiff-Manchester route is covering one of the diagrams. A 158!

That diagram is being used to balance units to get things back to normal today.
The 158 will be an unusual visitor to Manchester but will swap out at Shrewsbury to get it back to its usual routes.
A 197 then covers Shrewsbury-Cardiff-Crewe where a Mk4 is planned to swap in this afternoon to cover the remainder of the diagram and balance for tomorrow. Only 1 Mk4 was kept at Canton over Christmas and the engineering works hence the imbalance this morning.

Only 1 set at Cardiff this morning,
It’s being replaced at Shrewsbury on 1V37 by 197019
Which in turn is due to be replaced at
Crewe on 1W59 by 67013 Set HD06

It had a coolant leak so depends how severe as to whether it can be fixed there or taken to Crewe.

As this set would also form the 1053 and 1853 from Cardiff to Manchester, it is a bad start to 2026. Thankfully, those are lighter-loaded services southbound relative to the 16:30 and 18:30 from Piccadilly.

From Shrewsbury to Manchester.

Now on route to Shrewsbury
100 minutes late.

1W63 & 1W96 both cancelled

The run to Holyhead - and the return to Crewe have both been cancelled - "issues with the train crew" on RTT....

Does the loco (025) still need to go to Crewe for repair ?

Whilst I was in Cardiff today riding 231's/756's, I noticed they managed to find a pair of 197s to cover the missing MK4 diagram. Good extra capacity there when needed.

Should have be 67017 set HD04
Which finally made Crewe on 1W61
Last night a mere 202 minutes late
Due to the points failure at
Sutton Bridge.

Yes good point. I havent checked if anything else has been replaced or short formed as a result of a pair of 2 car 197s covering a MK4. I didnt notice anything being replaced at Cardiff but that doesnt mean there wasnt.
