I didn't even know there was one today - I'm not going to be able to get any footage of that either so can anyone who's doing so please let me know...?

Well here's the schedule on realtime anyway... - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O68951/2019-12-12/detailed

You are not keeping a check on RTT instead of relying on the info filtering through other means To avoid checking there is another one tomorrow:-

Another Tyseley to Cardiff on the way today. Couldn't ID the unit though. Too dark to make out

I'm guessing it's the one whose realtime schedule is linked in post 575, and that I also mentioned in post 579 right above yours...? Yes, I'm going to actually capture it on video for once :p

Thanks for implicitly telling us it's one unit though. That'll leave just one more 3-car to be delivered from Tyseley, and then 2-car "271" which will transfer from Norwich in late January / early February.

170204 just left Central to go into Canton. Again, no-one else was around, very strange.

So that leaves 205 to come from Tyseley and 271 whenever GA can cope without it
Indeed! Again, a disturbing absence of anyone else around, but at least I got video this time, which I will post later :p

If they are under TfW, it'll be ECS-only

They can work mechanically together, in that the couplings work together however the electronics don't so they cannot work electronically together. Sprinters and 170s shouldn't cause any problems, though.

Hence ECS-only :)

An instruction has gone out at TFW that 170s and 14x are not to be coupled under any circumstances.

Even with the 170's passenger doors locked...?

It wouldn’t matter. If the Pacer doors are released you no longer have interlock and, therefore, no brake release. Hence...

...which tallies with an instruction we have whereby if you have to assist a Cl14X you may only couple mechanically not electrically.

170s and pacers shouldn't need to work together anyway as the pacers are apparently only being used on Cardiff Valley/Local services from the timetable change, mainly the Rhymney line I think. 170s are working Ebbw Vale, Maesteg and Cheltenham so not the proper valley lines so they shouldn't need to interact with pacers.

Will there be enough 170s next week to cover all the Ebbw Vale, Maesteg-Cheltenham diagrams? Im not sure how many diagrams are required. I think Ebbw Vale is 3, not sure about Maesteg.

I was only thinking in terms of empties; they can never run together in passenger service. 150/153 and 170, or 14x and 158, are the "widest apart" combos for passengers

As of this evening with "204"'s delivery, TfW have 9 170/2s available to them out of the 12 ("273" is at Central Rivers for bogie work, "205" is still at Tyseley workshop and "271" is still with GA until late January / early February
