175111 is in pieces there now, apparently has no engines.
Do you know if it is being cannibalised for parts?
Seems unlikely a 175 needing both engines out would go back in service with TfW

I have read the review now in Modern Railways. Doesnt sound like the writer was overly impressed with the class 197! I look forward to trying one myself.judging by the review of the 197s in the current Modern Railways that may be about to become a more common experience.
Hope is for all 6 MKIV diagrams covered from May timetable change, which I assume is what they mean by "Spring".I have read the review now in Modern Railways. Doesnt sound like the writer was overly impressed with the class 197! I look forward to trying one myself.
There is also an interesting article in Modern Railways about the marches line. It says that TFW are hoping by Spring to stop class 150s and 153s substitutions on the Marches. I assume by Spring they will be more confident of all MK4 diagrams running as well as more 197s in the North to have more 175s available for the Marches. Cant imagine it could be because 197s will appear by the Spring apart from perhaps on the Cardiff-Holyhead.
Looking likely the 6 Mk4 diagrams Will never start with HD08 being so heavily stripped its looking likely it'll be scrapped with the remaining parts being used as spares.Hope is for all 6 MKIV diagrams covered from May timetable change, which I assume is what they mean by "Spring".
I thought they were being optimistic, but I didn't realise it was that optimistic.....Looking likely the 6 Mk4 diagrams Will never start with HD08 being so heavily stripped its looking likely it'll be scrapped with the remaining parts being used as spares.
There would then be 5 diagrams from 7 instead of 6 from 8
Don't forget the plan was 6 from 7. HD08 was a much later acquisition.Looking likely the 6 Mk4 diagrams Will never start with HD08 being so heavily stripped its looking likely it'll be scrapped with the remaining parts being used as spares.

Indeed that's what I was going off when I said all 6 in service. But given how reliable they've been so far 5 from 7 might be more prudent.Don't forget the plan was 6 from 7. HD08 was a much later acquisition.
I'd say the May TT change is late Spring. The article suggests stopping using 150/153 on the Marches BY Spring which I would say was MId to Late March.Hope is for all 6 MKIV diagrams covered from May timetable change, which I assume is what they mean by "Spring".
I really can't see this happening considering how many 175s are out of service, how the Mk4s keep failing / not available for service, how there are not any 197s in use yet on the Marches and the biggest fact being there are booked sprinters daily up and down the route I would imagine this will take longer than March to sort out I reckon it will be at least May TT change if not longerI'd say the May TT change is late Spring. 008. More info in the UK rail general sectionIt was a fire on one of a pair of 2 cars. Either 008 or 009
How do you know they're spare?Today 2 158 booked diagrams have been worked by 175's and 1 158 booked diagram worked by them yesterday, surely this is part of the problem when they have a bunch of spare 158's on Abbey Forgate.
They are not booked any workings and have been sitting around all day.How do you know they're spare?
Yes 1204 Cardiff to Carmarthen was worked by a 175 today. That's usually a Sprinter.Today 2 158 booked diagrams have been worked by 175's and 1 158 booked diagram worked by them yesterday, surely this is part of the problem when they have a bunch of spare 158's on Abbey Forgate.

Haven't seen many 158s in the South recently. Just the odd one covering a Milford to Manchester.
Broke maybe? They are not booked any workings and have been sitting around all day.
Funny, that was the exact position on 175s on Feb 16 last week.Yesterday morning there were 4 x 175 in the sidings at Chester, three of which were 175/1. 197010 and 197002 were on MIA-LLD and 158826 on CTR-LIV.
They must be 'up north'.Haven't seen many 158s in the South recently. Just the odd one covering a Milford to Manchester.
There was one visible at the Stockport end of Longsight depot when I passed the other week - didnt see the number or whether it was a 2 or 3 car. Not sure if it was one of the donor units or whether it was just visiting for work/exam.Not seen by me:

104 in service -- Cardif Central(CDF) to Camarthen(CMN) today.
105 in service also CDF to CMN
108 Reported in this thread as parked at Holyhead, unlikely to return to service with TfW
111 parts donor, unlikely to return to service
113 in service. Chester to Llandudno this morning.

I started casual trainspotting in October, ticking off the numbers I see on my short daily comute. As of today I've seen all the Transport for Wales class 158s either at Bangor or Llanfairpwll.
I've got 21 of the 27 class 175s. Doubt I'm going to see all 27, even if I go to Holyhead to visit 175108.

Yesterday the 175's were on Holyhead to Birmingham and Birmingham to Newton Powys services.
On Saturday it was 175113 spending the entire afternoon top and tailed by 158's making a stupid long 7 car train on the Cambrian as far as Newtown Powys (the 175 portion would of gone to Aberystwyth if it wasn't for engineering works.)
I did see one in the South yesterday operating the 1645 Llanelli to Chester. According to RTT it was 158818.They must be 'up north'.

Same set is on 1W60 1201 Carmarthen to Manchester today. We do see the class west of Swansea most days, but normally just 1 or 2 of them.I did see one in the South yesterday operating the 1645 Llanelli to Chester. According to RTT it was 158818.
158s can't couple to 175s, and 175s can't go on the Cambrian.Yesterday the 175's were on Holyhead to Birmingham and Birmingham to Newton Powys services.

If you’ll believe RTT when it says a 175 wedged in between two 158s, you’ll believe anythingYesterday the 175's were on Holyhead to Birmingham and Birmingham to Newton Powys services.
