I’ve been booked onto an assessment for the role of TFL train maintainer. I was told I’d have an assessment (AC1), could somebody tell me what it actually entails ?

It's a written test, multiple choice as well if I remember correctly.
Electrical, mechanical, mathematics and possibly drawing identification skills but I might be getting confused with another test when it comes to the drawing.
It's fairly straightforward and not to difficult.

Always dress smartly but with the option to take off a jacket.

There really isn't anything to revise, it's basic mechanical, electrical and math questions.
If you come from those backgrounds it should be pretty straightforward.

I work on track but I don’t know if that will help with exam to be honest. @Spurs1961 Sorry to bother you but do you remember any of the questions from the exam that you can give me an example on

I can't remember everything as I done several tests for the jobs I applied for but it was basic electrical symbols, direction of cogs and ratios I think.
Nothing really difficult.

Cheers for that, I don’t come from an electrical background I work on track so I’m Panicking slightly when you mean by basic electrical symbol are you talking about circuits wise?

I imagine one prerequisite is that you are blind and lazy given the filthy state of all underground carriages

Guys this is my 2nd time sitting the Train Maintainer AC1 assessment test, the first time caught me off guard coz it's a written test approx 40 - 50 question ranging from mechanical & electrical , maths & English.
Im from an electrical background and it still caught me off guard.

tip : Go get you C&G electrical level 3 book out


This test was NOT multiple choice !!!! [ as per 2023 ]

Hi,

Had mine today, wasn’t too bad if your from the trade.

Its was based on:
Maths( equations),

Electrical ( electrical circuits and diagrams, electrical equations, electrical installations)

Mechanical (tools, wheel cogs) questions

Some Health and Safety questions.

It was a written test aptitude test so not multiple choice all the way. You had to write down the answers yourself.

There was 42 questions and 65 marks to get and 45 minutes to do it.

Got a email 3 weeks back saying due to cyber security incident they can not give an update on the outcome
Got an email today again with the same update.

So not a yes and not a no either

I've been waiting nearly 3 years, spoke to someone internally, they really need train Maintainers but they are trying to sort out HR side out

Also for anyone curious theres was 1000s of applications then they narrow it down to 500 to do the test and from there to the last interview stage it was reduced to 200 for across the country however im not sure how many goes to the waiting list

Neasdon mate but still waiting for a position to open up so I can have medical and start date. Not holding my breath to be honest.

Everything done through agency, maybe try contacting permtemp.

I got Neasden and Stonebridge Park, said I will be starting in August 2024. But nothing happened. Joined rmt and that's how mine kicked off.

Neasden do Need engineers but issue with hr that is what I was told.

I got offered a place on the waiting list for Neasden.
Emailed and no update whatsoever and no places available elsewhere.
It's a bit weird as they told me at my interview there were loads of spaces that needed filling.
Are you saying you joined the union and they gave them a kick up the arse?

Yes something like that, it will help as they would speak to fleets manager and hr to see what happening
