To celebrate Queens road depots 125th year of operation (originally a tram shed), all Queens road vehicles are having the depot code (QS) added to the the end of fleet numbers. I’ve noticed a couple out today with the codes already added.

Obviously the over zealous enthusiasts are going to assume it’s a Bee network thing and they all buses will get depot codes - only queens road buses are to get them.

Personally I think it looks a bit daft but each to their own.
Do we know what buses have this

Do each company lease the garage/outstation from TFGM while they have the contract to those routes that that depot has ?

The main large depots (Bolton, Queens, Sharston etc) are owned by TfGM. Smaller garages (Goodwin St [Bolton], Eccles etc) are leased or owned by the operator.

Like has it started yet?
The additional chargers being put in place? Because although not fully, but Oldham is technically electrified? As to why they have Enviro400 EVs

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

By the way, does the Free Bus still get charged at Oldham? Or did it move to Middleton?

A bit of interesting detail from the agenda for this weeks clean air committee at the GMCA.

V1/V2 going electric from May along with the 8 and 10 plus a few more bits.

Link below and screenshot attached for ease.

Don’t suppose anyone has an idea of what they have ordered? I assume Electroliners.

Now confirmed that it is indeed 58 Electroliners coming (https://www.route-one.net/news/bee-network-vantage-brt-corridor-to-get-streetdeck-electroliners/) - a good proportion will be to "enhanced spec" for the Busway services. All due during May/June and will enter service as they are ready.

Is the PVR for vantage really as high as late 30s I there are 43 to Vantage spec?
I thought that.

The base requirement appears to be 10 on each of the V1 and V2, with various peak extras - due to interworking the running boards on bustimes appear complicated. I think the PVR for the V1/V2 /V4 group is closer to 30 on weekdays - can anyone confirm more accurately? The 8 and 10 interwork and it looks like they need around 24 between them.

As for 43 to the enhanced spec, I wonder if it's to ensure that Vantage routes always get such a vehicle - at which point they may as well have done the lot!

I looked at bustimes and as I type there's 11 buses tracking on the V2 and 10 on the V1. That's daytime off-peak. Interested, I put all of yesterdays tracking data into a spreadsheet and got it to remove all the duplicate licence plates. It told me on the V1 and V2, a total of 34 different vehicles were used across the two routes on Thursday 29 Jan.

Adding on the V4 gave 37.

I do wonder if it's a bit of additional growth and perhaps a little more that the electrics need charging during the day?

Any idea what may happen to the old busway buses the vantages and evosetis
The official line (seen on the GMCA docs up thread) is that there will be cascades to Wigan as a result - whether this is StreetDecks or the B5TLs is not yet known.

I presume the B5LH evosetis will join the others for the 163, they're about the right spec for that route

With the forthcoming closure of Piccadilly Railway Station for nine days from Sat 14th Feb to Sun 22nd Feb inclusive, over the school half term, will see rail replacement buses and coaches from a wide area
Piccadilly Railway Station closure from 14 Feb for 9 days Piccadilly corridor renewal - Network Rail

For Stockport: 24 rail replacement buses per hour between Stockport and Piccadilly and additional provision from Guide Bridge (from Vitoira Station) and the airport (from towns in Yorkshire etc).

In addition, TfGM are bolstering the Stagecoach 192 by 10 buses. Using School buses from Little Hulton schoolbus depot with some drivers.
These buses are mainly NOT in Bee Network livery - but are in Stagecoach local livery with yellow "school bus squares" from the batch: 10402-21

These are intended to be used as floating resource which can be deployed from Daw Bank to run on at Mersey Square into Manchester to ensure that sufficient capacity exists through Levenshulme and Longsight, given that there are no rail replacement buses from Heaton Chapel or Levenshulme stations.

Metroline are also boosting 219’s from Guidebride and Piccadilly using extra resources from Hyde road.
Ironically though road works are due to commence on Fairfield Street just past where it meets the Mancunion way/Ashton old road in the next couple of weeks which could complicate things further.

I've just found some news on a construction website, that seems to suggest that Wigan and one of the two Wythenshawe depots, which one is not specified, are to be converted to Electric Operation with work starting later this year, as phase 5, a phase 6 is due for some other depots but that will not be completed until 2029.

Presumably this means there will be a lot of modern diesel Wright Streetdecks and ADL E200MMC's to either cascade or sell on.

Wigan so I understand is also expecting a number of Streetdecks to be cascaded from Bolton in May to replace the remaining E400's at Wigan I presume, but these now look to be a temporary move before the depot is electrified.

Likely to be ex Stagecoach depot at Sharston - which currently only has partial charging for the 32 ex Stagecoach 69 plate buses on site

The ex Arriva depot at Wythenshawe is probably too small to be justify investment?

I’m wondering are the ex GAL B9s due to be replaced to due to hitting the age limit? are TfGM eventually going to own every vehicle on the Bee Network not on schools?

For now too small, but if TfGM have ambitions for a wholly zero emission fleet in the long term then the smaller depots will need to be electrified. That doesn’t really suit the small franchise model either where operators own their own depots as it wouldn’t be viable to incur the electrification expense for a 5 year contract.
