No other information but I heard there could be some injuries albeit minor?

Train strikes fallen tree at Hinton Admiral after a night of strong winds

A TRAIN has hit a fallen tree in Hampshire.

The incident happened at around 9pm this evening near Hinton Admiral.

The South West Trains service that was hit by the tree was on the Brockenhurst to Bournemouth route.

No one was hurt in the incident and engineers are working to remove the debris.

Numerous trees have fallen onto the line throughout the evening.

Passengers faced delays after a tree fell on the line in the area earlier in the evening.

The tree was cleared, but the following train struck a tree in the same area.

Commuters face delays of more than an hour as staff clear the scene.

A spokesperson for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: "Due to poor weather conditions across the South of England, a number of our train services are currently experiencing delays.

"The conditions are also impacting on other transport providers and road networks across the region.

"Numerous trees have fallen during the evening which are blocking lines. Our staff have been working hard to remove these trees as quickly as possible however there are two locations on the network which are currently being affected.

"The line is currently blocked between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth following a train striking a tree at Hinton Admiral.

"There are no injuries as a result of this incident and we are doing everything we can to remove the debris from the line and transport passengers to their final destinations as quickly as possible.

"On the Exeter line between Axminster and Honiton a fallen tree is causing the line to be blocked. We have staff on site and are doing all we can to remove the debris and reopen the line.

"We are providing taxis wherever possible to convey passengers between stations and passengers can also use First Great Western services on reasonable routes.

"We are working to update passengers through our Twitter feed @sw_trains and our website southwesttrains.co.uk and advise anyone planning to travel to check National Rail Enquiries before travelling.

"We're sorry that the current severe weather conditions are causing disruption to our services. We want to reassure passengers that we're doing everything we can to clear tracks and get our services back to normal as quickly as possible."

Haha indeed. Seems like local news here were speaking too soon about injuries! Glad there were none, bar the tree of course! :smile:

Sorry guys, I found the quoted aticle a bit of a hoot.
First

Which one was it. Did the train hit the tree or did the tree hit the train and was it on a branch line at the time.

I just hope that when all the funny buggers on here are out driving their cars they dont mind people taking the **** when they have a crash, the car blows up etc.

You might like to know that the driver has recovered from the shock of hitting the tree and should be back at work soon, not that any of you twits give a toss, any excuse for a joke at the railways expense isnt it!

It was established in the thread's first reply that there were no injuries. If there had been, no doubt a different tone would have prevailed.

Furthermore, the jokes aren't at the railway's expense at all. If anything they're at our own expense for making us look like we've got nothing better to do than coming up with daft puns.

The driver wasnt injured but it did scare the **** out of him, but hey as long as nobody is injured thats okay isnt it.

The train in question actually hit two trees last night, and while it seems like a laugh and a joke they can be a serious threat. Not long after the 450s had been introduced into service, one unit had its front cab written off after striking a tree, had the driver not moved at the last moment the trunk would have impaled his face..
