I guess it doesn't matter how it looks as long as it actually lasts.

I take it given the 455s and 456s will eventually go, no chance of them ever having WiFi.

They are being fitted now. 6011 has had it for months as a trial.

I think the livery looks really good. It matches with some of the original colours on board so there doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul.

The big question is whether the interior has been done or whether it's just moved outside for a bit of fresh air!

That’s what I was wondering and meant to say last night (but was too tired for that!). We certainly know that it’s had it’s interior stripped out from the numerous press images, but have the layout changes now finally been implemented or has it just ended up with an interior re-fresh.

Did anyone expect the livery to change? I didn’t to be honest, although that time in the sheds haven’t done the unit any good. It looks grubby, especially between carriages.

Given the length of time it’s spent out of use in Eastleigh, then to be honest yes. If SWR have made changes to the interior layout, including the reduction of First Class and cycle and luggage spaces then I would expect to see some signs of it from the outside. Also, if SWR is as concerned about its image as I’d like to hope so, then you would almost expect the fleet to eventually receive the finalised livery to create a matching fleet. However, given this is First Group and given the state of its sister GWR franchise I don’t hold much hope!

I am amazed they are doing this though. My comments was speculative and I just didn't expect it.

Back more on topic, do they need to put stickers on the plug sockets and if they do, why don't have TOCs have stickers saying what devices may use the plug sockets?

Very likely not. As an intensively used suburban fleet due for replacement, SWR cannot afford any unit shortages until the 701s start coming on stream.

The 455 fleet is not especially intensively used, but the other two fleets are. The 456s were only thoroughly refurbished a few years back. The 455s and 458s are in an acceptable condition given the short time they have left.

Such a little little little thing, turning the poles and grab handles blue - but I think it would be sooo effective for sure.

I mentioned it should be the yellow that they use for their stripe.

I've noticed that on some 450s there are now plug sockets. There use to be pug sockets on a few but it's expanding is my impression.

If it is expanding then I'm sure the above point has been mentioned on here.

However has anyone mentioned the fact that on top of the plug dockets is a message about it being for laptop battery charging only. In this day and age of smartphones that seems silly. I've not seen similar wording on other trains being to other franchises.

The same stickers were already used on the 450s in the first class area, and have probably been there since the trains were originally delivered, 15 years ago. I expect back then people quickly sussed out that it actually meant "nothing more powerful than" a laptop charger.

I actually think it's better than the stripey version, not as much going on, much cheaper and easier to maintain I'd imagine...

There’s also a marker for the quiet coach.

In my opinion the stripes could have been retained on the doors.

Stripes design definitely looks more thorough and professional. But probably cost more and takes longer

Yes it is due out immanently, the union were supposed to be invited to review the unit and come to an agreed method of working on Desiros, including restricting people passing in back cabs, but with the latest round of action announced the invitation was withdrawn.
