I would hope it would be exhibited at Ashford before withdrawal - after all, 455's had electrical work done there and the wholesale refurbishment (Chart Leacon), so there is an association between the two

As others have commented on above, it will be largely based upon miles (of running) left before a unit needs to be stopped for exam purposes, which in itself costs money. In very basic terms, in my time we ramped that up from 10 to 15k miles between exams, but I've since been informed (off record), that 455's are now something like 20k between exams. Someone better in the know these days will correct me I am sure!
There will I am sure be a limited amount of flexibility to this if several units are stopped for various reasons, parts/components can be swapped out, to prolong the life of (perhaps) one unit over one or two basket cases. It is what it is, Peter is robbed to keep Paul going etc, the painted unit number will be of little if any consequence!
Trawling through RTT I can find 49 class 455s that have carried passengers today. 23 pairs and three singles. The singles are the AM and PM halves of the booked single diagram whilst the third is standing in for a five car 458. There is also an extra pair out on the Reading line all day vice class 450 or 458.
A couple of other observations from the past two days. The 508 trailers are noticeably cooler than the other three vehicles when the outside temperature is in the mid 20s. The motors on 5711 and 5715 are enjoyably loud. They actually sound loudest when slowing down and whilst sitting in the adjacent 508 trailers. Had some cracking runs, waiting time all over the place on several trips. Pleasing to note that many drivers still take the trouble to display the correct two digit route codes.
This unit will be missed amongst enthusiasts, like the units mentioned in the post above, 5919 had ridiculous loud motors that always lived up my commute when I had it.
455901 and 455858 plus trailer car 62758 remains of the last sets delivered to unimetals newport.

There will be one last visit here, before I job relocate from working within the docks

455858 was one of my favorite units aswell, very sad sight to see and I'm glad I got to see it one last time on the scrap drag at clapham, thank you for the images.
It hasn't been stopped for long. It was part of the pair that failed at Surbiton on 12th 2G23. While it isn't a guarantee something selected for scrap will not re-enter service, this one is out of UAT miles so I expect it to be sidelined now.
This is the risk with all the remaining stock now, in that should they encounter a significant failure, especially when close to running out of exam miles on any front, they stand a much higher risk of "jumping the queue" onto the scrap list. The frailty of this class now means any of them can go next.

Apologies I missed a note earlier. 5915 is also now confirmed for scrap. I think it was last in service on 8th and got back to Wimbledon on 5Y67 following the door control issue, and not been in service since.
