Weren't there something like 84 diagrams for 91 units back in the day? What are the figures now? With new motors and electrical gubbins they should carry on for years unless the bodies are rotten.

Just got news 707 withdrawal begins on 19th August till 28th October 2023.
Funnily enough I've got some working on them this week.

Not on 707s today though as the job was cancelled due to engineering works..
Also, does anybody know why the 458s have the sudden escape of air every now and again.I'm sure I knew why it happened, but it looks like I forgot why it does that.
One of the buggers made me jump today when it did that.

With about 8 scrapped, and another dozen awaiting overhaul (or being overhauled) only really about max of 70 that can be used for service nowadays.

SWR didn't have the oldest 455s, but theirs are now 38-41 years old (with the ex class 508 trailers nearer 44 years old).

The internal refurbishments and downseating from 316 to nearer 240 happened 15-19 years ago, (late 2004- mid 2008), I had forgotten is was so long ago.

The new motors and electrics are about 9 years old.

I am not sure how much longer spending money on C4 and C6 overhauls can be justified when there are over 650 class 701 vehicles sitting around.

The 508 carriage numbers in the 455s go between 71526 in 455723, which was originally in 508001, and 71568 in 455720, which was originally in 508043. They aren't distributed in the 455s in numeric order of the 508s they came out of but it can all be worked out easily.

Until they have 701's in passenger use they will have to keep overhauls going unless they are going to cut back service or formations further.

Any particular reason for this? Was it a last-minute substitution or are 458s now diagrammed on this line?

It was a 707 diagram and now a 458 diagram. Two 10.707 diagrams have been turned over to 458s in recent weeks.

Awaiting a motor wheel set change. There is a phonic wheel which is part of the motor wheel set that is damaged that affects the speed sensor and generating traction faults. A previous overhauler just used to chuck them around not knowing the significance of it. Anyway the unit hobbled on MO until replacement axles could arrive. It may seem simple to the outsiders but so much of the float and supply is now set round regearing the motor wheels to 100mph rather than the 75mph configuration. We have axles but a few units vying for them.

A mixture of 458/5s and 455s will be replacing the 707s, with a full removal from the LTPs come September 11th. All 707s will have gone by mid/late October

Did a Dorking and Hampton Court on a 458 ten car, and it was good.My debut with 458's on both routes.
458502 and 458520.I remember because the wrong number was written on the sheet, so I had to inform the relevant parties…As it goes it was just a typo.
