SWR Guard Position Prospects

Hi there,
Thanks in advance for reading.
It is my first post here as after some time trying, I passed the assessments and got an interview for Guard with SWR.
Doing then research to prepare the interview I found out about all the industrial actions happening lately and the changes in the roles of guards, which made me quite worried.
For anyone working for the company, what do you guys think are the prospects of the role for the future?
Am I maybe worrying too much?
The position I applied for would be in Waterloo.

You are overthinking it. Apply. Knock yourself out. Guards will be around in one form or another for the foreseeable. Try not to listen to the negativity.

It’ll be a competency based interview, so things like “Give an example of when you’ve delivered exceptional customer service”, or, “Give an example of when you’ve had to follow rules or regulations”. They will also no doubt want to ask you what you know about them as a company, so research them and show you know that Mark Hopwood is their interim MD and they ferry 400,000 customers a day to Waterloo in the peak etc etc.

Use the STAR method (google this or search the forums is probably best for that, as there’s loads of info on it). It’s important to remember too, that when they ask for examples, they want EXAMPLES, and not what you would do in a given scenario. So it’s worth looking at some safety experience you might have, as trivial as it may be, even non-work related (car breakdown or something?). It’s always worth “banking” some incidents in life to use in interviews, that’s what I do .

It’s a standard interview so be yourself and try and come across as genuine as possible. Good luck with it, please let us know how it went! Also remember, you’ve done really well to get this far, so it’s something to be proud of whatever happens!
