6001 is at Wimbledon waiting for a replacement traction motor.
6001 is on 23 road Top yard and is tucked away. You can see from the District Line as it’s the closest road to the LUL but could struggle to see the number.

I was told that the units have MA problems, but do move occasionally for the wheel bearings.
I've heard other stuff about this, so whether this is true or not I don't know.
Did seem a bit strange that they are laid off for so long if it was MA problems.

I'm sure I have seen 5847 from the roadway, and it's got both flags up… I'm sure it's been there a while. What's wrong with it?
Thanks.

Planning a trip to London in a few weeks time and wondered if anyone could give status for the following SWR units please?

455717/872/907(also after 726 but suppose there's no change with it) 456006 458506

None of them appear to be out when I check RTT so guessing all are OOU (at Wimbledon?). Trying to work out if a wander on Durnsford Road is required. Thanks.

5717 on 19 road, depot sidings visible from Durnsford Road, London side of depot. Held as low on miles to overhaul.
5872 in shed, had replacement wheels, needs return to service exam.
5907 berthed behind 5717 so you wont see from driveway. Same reasons as 5717
6006 currently in shed on B exam.
8506 stopped with traction fault on 10 road Top Yard so visible from the Durnsford Bridge country side of depot. First outdoor road to the right of the cleaning shed as you see it.

5742 currently working 2G55 1833 Waterloo to Guildford (C) with 5908.

8508 currently working 2S56 1740 Weybridge to Waterloo Via Chertsey solo.

All the others are not showing on RTT.

8504 and 8515 (and indeed 8514) are all long term demic as far as I can tell. They (and 8506) are the only 458s I've not had this year.

Thank you. Looks like I should be able to get some of them.

Edit - notice 5872 is back in traffic today (01/10)

Just a small list!
Ha ha, no need to reply. I was at Wimbledon on Saturday with the kids. Saw most of the list, certainly the 455s, 6001 and 8506 anyway. Contrary to a previous poster 5703 was country side from Durnsford Rd.

Guidance on the 8504, 8515 and 8529 would be good though please.

5726 is waiting a traction motor. It will be reactivated. It’s in the engineering sidings on the London side of Durnsford Road. You can see it through the fence at the depot driveway before the entrance.

That first pic is a lovely assortment of trains!

How many are actually out of action, and what's wrong with 458535?
I know 455750 and 455905 are still in the same spot in Clapham Yard, I passed them today.

I read somwhere that 458535 has a seized bearing or bearings and not likely to move for some time.
Its not part of the reconversation plan anyway.

458507/8517 are off lease ready for reconversation at Widnes back to 4 car 458's.

458504/15/29 are oos at Wimbledon long term with various faults.

455704/36/855 are all out of mileage pending overhaul and as such wont be used in traffic again.

455717/38/50/905/907 are stored servicable with very low miles to overhaul, in addition 5750 has seized bearings also.

455866/918 will taken out of service next February.

Recently I have been tracking RTT to find those 455/456 that do not appear to be working. The following is a list of those that I have not seen appear on RTT this month. Many are covered by "444045" explanations above, but there are a few others which I think have also been absent for a lot longer than two weeks, but I cannot be certain of that. My non scientific list is;

455704/17/26/36/38/40/50
455847/54/55/57
455905/06/07/13/18

456001/005/010/011/019

A few weeks ago a number of 455+455+456 diagrams were working, but these appear to have ended with everything now either 455+455 or 455+456+456 (or less). This is probably a consequence of the 707s leaving and existing resources being strectched further.

If there are further delays with the 701s, I wonder what the chances are of these units getting an overhaul and returning to traffic?

With the 707s due to all be gone by Spring, likely pressure to get the 458 refurbishment under way and no sign whatsoever of the 701s entering service there will surely be the need to get these back into traffic.

They have permanently reduced the Metro timetable dramatically which might reduce the pressure.

5750 and 5905 together in Clapham Yard and can be seen from the bridge...15rd I think it is… Saw 5847 when I was in Wimbledon. It had both flags pulled up. Pretty sure that's been there a while also.
I worked a six car recently, but there have been four cars floating about in the rush hour.

Just wait until the snow hits in a couple of months. Feels like SWR has a pretty major fleet availability problem brewing.....

It does, doesn’t it? They’ll only have themselves to blame, too.

What puzzles me is that the 707s are not needed by SE. Whichever Networkers were targeted to put into storage can stay for however long. The DfT controls rolling stock allocation. It's in their gift to ensure there's not a rolling stock shortage on SWR, because there doesn't have to be.

So the three 455’s which are bust for miles are the first three to be withdrawn from service? also, is there a plan in place as to which 455 gets withdrawn when?

Thanks guys for all your posts on this, very helpful! I was at WD last weekend, and managed to see the following (sorry dont know the correct names for the 2 different parts of the depot or sidings!):
London end; visible from access road through fence next to conifer trees: 5847 458509/513 5704 5913 5717 5726 2725 5862
Country End; visible from bridge or from industrial estate down the steps: 458506 5722 5736 458508 456010 5710 5855 456005.
Does anyone know the location of 5738/40? (not mentioned anywhere, unless Ive missed it) or 458504/15 (noted as at WD above, but not sure where) Previous posts have already covered where at WD 5907 and 456001 can be seen (or not!)

5847 still there with the flags up, I see…been there a few times and noticed it…So that's been out weeks.

What we need is a list and a status of the units…
