Would either @WarrenTManager or @5920 be able to say whether the following 455/456 are likely to be in traffic service again soon please :

5707/5709/5725/5848/5854/5866/5901/5906/5908/5913/5914/5918/6012/6017/6018/6020.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

After a lengthy period out of use, 455906 & 455918 are back in service today;

456020 is also out, although I had not noticed that unit being out of use, but that fact may have slipped under my radar

I don't think 456020 has been out of use for a prolonged period. I've had it in June and September this year.

Hi, so re 456001 - I can confirm that as per @WarrenTManager ’s guidance (post from 22/9) it is indeed to be found in the far siding (23 Road). I spotted this on Sunday using Warrens lead - as he said you can’t decipher the number from the District Line so I got off the District Line at Wimbledon Park and then walked to this industrial unit area off ‘The Crescent’. I climbed the outside stairs of some weird gym / sports injury place and could distinctly make out 001. This completed my 456’s - happy.
Hi Chas 1979
I'm in London next weekend and just require 456001 to complete the class. Not knowing the Wimbledon depot area at all would 001 be visible from the stairs without binoculars? Also in the picture kindly posted on here by @WarrenTManager is it possible to get anywhere near the parked vans to get a clear picture of the unit without trespassing??

I had 456 020 this afternoon ( coupled to 456 016 and 455 701 ) so it's definitely alive and well.

The vans are parked in the area between the top yard and the LUL District Line which is for contractors parking. It’s part of the no go zone within the depot limits. Your best bet is the gym as highlighted. I think it’s called Bounce.

Has there been anymore information about the potential conversion of these to a DEMU once they finish with SWR? To be honest I can’t see it happening but it would be interesting if they did

Well, given the great success of the Class 769 programme (laughs uncontrollably) and the fact that the units are getting on for 40 years old I'd say that is a rather remote prospect.

I understand they've been cleared for towing to the scrapline at Newport so I can only a one-way journey to S Wales in prospect.

Hi Pep and co, in answer to both your questions ‘yes’ and ‘yes’ - re the parking I can only answer this in the context of at the weekend - I imagine it would be a different story trying to park there on a weekday

For the first time in several months, low mileage stored 455738 is in service today;

Fellow low mileage stored 455717, has been in use almost daily since it returned on 21/10.

From RTT, my list of those that have not worked within the last month is;

455725,726,740
455847,848,854,866
455905,907,913
456001,005,017,018

& out of miles 455704,736,855

This list is dependent upon the data fed to RTT by SWR and my own limitations, so it may not be 100% correct, but it should be close.

Thanks! I wonder if that means that 5905 is now fully visible in Clapham Yard; or have they shoved another unit in front of it?

Thank you 444045 for the update. Of course I should have included 455750 in the list that I posted yesterday, but fortunately my error has been self corrected!

Strange, I saw that as well at Wimbledon on the same day. Sure it wasn't 5850 as I couldn't see the number properly, but it was a 57 headlight cluster.
Where is 5905 which was with it?

It was definately U.5750, I had to check a second time myself. Not sure where U.5905 has gone though ?

Yeah, I'm not doubting that I was just surprised as I only partly saw the unit, but as I realised the headlight clusters were of a 455/7 I was suspicious and surprised it had moved.
Also noticed it was missing from Clapham Yard.

Plus, my wording wasn't great in my last posting.

Aren't the headlight clusters identical across all units? There's other front end differences, particularly around the roofline and the horn placement but I thought lights were identical post refurbishment

Does anyone know if 5905 is still in Clapham Yard?

Yup, you are right… I think I've gone senile and had a flashback to the old days.(doh) :wub:
I still had a suspicion it was 5750,though.
Not sure where 5905 is.

What work are the last three out of miles for? Given the unit shortage would it not make sense to do the work and put them to the back of the scrap queue?
