Is it? Have always thought that supermarket trolley handles and basket handles are invariably somewhat scuzzy. And this was pre COVID-19.

Maybe they are, but we normally accept that we don't and can't live in a sterile environement.

Very true although it did always bother me. I never used to clean the handles but I did used to use hand sanitiser after coming out. Too many absolutely filthy buggers about.

Using hand sanitiser is the correct thing to do. It's pointless cleaning a trolley handle, firstly because as mentioned above the disinfectant needs about 10 minutes to work, and also because you'll go in to the supermarket and touch every item you're going to buy, as well as the checkout belt, the chip and pin reader etc. Just wash your hands afterwards and don't touch your face (whatever happened to that piece of guidance?)

That’s what my neighbor compared it to with one member of staff checking mask compliance and a second checking hand sanitizer Has been used and The shopping trolley/basket disinfected before being allowed to enter the store

Only place that forced people to use hand sanitiser was one Wetherspoons and one mcdonalds.

I carry my own hand sanitiser and will only use that as a lot of the cheap ones used at doorways etc I am allergic to
I also won't be treated like a schoolchild and let someone watch me do it.
They either take my word for it or I'll go elsewhere.

And hand sanitiser is only effective when hands aren't dirty - so it'd make no sense to not give people the option of going to the bog to wash their hands - which I usually used to do before covid anyway.

I went to Asda today, no queue, nobody at the door, walked straight in, shopped as normal, all tills open including the self-serve. Very happy experience, especially as my visit coincided with the second markdown on the reduced to clear shelves!

This is true. Anyone wiping off any disinfectant spray is doing it wrong. It needs to be left to evaporate. This trolley wiping thing is just nonsense.

I’ve also wondered how many other people have touched the trigger and bottle before I get to it, and how clean their hands are!

I noticed the Tesco Metro in Glasgow had a traffic light above the door. Aldi have them too.

My local tesco only has one double door which is used for both exit and entrance and also another entrance direct from the first floor car park (its attached to a multistorie) so cant see it being installed at my local branch

Not a supermarket, but yesterday I had to go to Curry's, and there was a bloke standing in the entrance bay between the outside and the shopping area, asking everyone who came in "what are you after?". I did need to make a purchase, but wonder what would have happened if I'd said "oh I just fancied a look around".

Well if retailers want to accelerate their own demise, putting off casual browsers who might make an impulse purchase would be a good start

Well Currys are doing that as they barely have any stock in the shops - ours is basically a showroom where you then go to buy online.

Plenty of toilet rolls available in mine, although the 24 packs had sold out. However, as the volume restriction was "one large pack or three smaller packs", three of the 9 packs makes 27 rolls... so better ( although probably slightly more expensive ).

There was lots of flour, but probably only 10% of the pasta stock. Thin bleach was out of stock but there was thick bleach. No shortages of anything else as far as I could tell.

Personally I would have said "Oh I was after a brand new top of the range 4K 55" TV, but maybe I'll buy it on Amazon instead".

Haha love it. I did part with £80 of my precious pounds for a microwave, having done in reverse what was suggested above - i.e. found the one I wanted online. Very lucky as there was only one left (I can't work out the digital ones, and there's not many manual ones made now), and I was relying on a lift from my friend which was only available that day (because I wasn't going to be there after that). My old one died the night before and I must have my nightly jacket spud.

Incidentally here's a tip - don't take the first extended warranty price they tell you. I was adamant I wasn't going to pay an extra £16 for 3-years and he eventually said "well I can do it for £10". Was sick of arguing so I accepted that.

Incidentally here's a tip - don't take the first extended warranty price they tell you.

Fixed that for you. In the vast, vast majority of cases, it simply isn't worth it. I certainly wouldn't even think about taking an extended warranty on any item costing less than about a grand, and even then it would have to be something that was likely to fail in the medium term - most things either fail near-immediately or last years these days, or (like laptops, other than possibly Apple ones due to the high price and repair cost) will need replacing because they're outmoded before they have chance to break.

If they won't get lost, throw it on the desk and walk out, then make a formal complaint.
