So all movements towards
London Latrine are considered "up", and all movements out of there are "down" then (Except for St. Pancreas > Derby, as Brandon pointed out above) I suppose that figures.
Correct. Though Quail lists the Midland Mainline as the same as the others, i.e down for away from London, up towards London.
...Though in my mind - With all good things being found up North - "Down" should really be used for southbound services IMO!
That would be a far more logical way of doing it, though this is the railways we're talking about..
I think I get ye there...Indeed, I believe that might be the line that I got my first trans-Pennine coverage on earlier this year (Running Preston > Blackburn > Burnley > Halifax > Leeds > Gjorvik) so the line itself - And that damn Hellfire incline west of Hebden

- Is still fresh in my mind. 8)
So basically: It sounds like "up" is West, and "down" is east in that case...Right?
This is where it gets complicated. All lines can either share an originating point, or have completely different originating points, and sometimes have direction changes mid-route. Same goes for mileage runs/reversals.
Preston to whereever Gjorvik is:

Bradford Interchange to Holbeck Jcn: Up
(Up Bradford changes to Down Doncaster at Holbeck Jcn)
Holbeck Jcn to Leeds: Down
