No but I know that Interviews more often than not lead to no job offer (understandable when its often 10-20 applicants for every 2 jobs by this stage), and if I was in pain for 6 months while waiting for an operation at a hospital, I wouldn't put it back another 6 months for an Interview which is likely to not lead to anything.

You don't know the reasons for Sonics appointment, if he was in pain for 6 months most likely a medical failure will occur.and 10 to 20 applicants can be times by 10

Ther question you have got to ask yourself Is this. Are they an employer worth working for? If they display such a lack of decency over somebody attending
a hospital appointment at this stage chances are they will they will have a similar attitude when you are employed by them. The company needs to tread carefully as it could almost be seen as a breach of employment law.

I took my assessments and had to wait 18 months for a structured interview! let alone a manager interview, and the only reason that I had the structured interview was because I had to re-apply for a job, and they could see I had sat the tests 18 months before hand and said that all i would need to do was the structured interview!

It is not a breach of employment law it is the decision of the company who they employ, there is no guaretee that if sonic had made the interview he would have got the job!

It is unusual to have the structured interview first!

Well now First Claim to have never received any corresponding letters or email from me. So I've politely said would I be considered for another job and they have confirmed yes. I'm not merely annoyed I'm just thinking that their way of replying is disgusting but that's my opnion.

This is a general response and in no way referring to Sonic:

No, maybe not a breach of employment law, but depending on the reason for the hospital appointment (e.g. related to a disability) then it could well be that alternative arrangements should have been considered. This does not mean to say that the TOC would need to bend over backwards, but perhaps they could proactively offer an alternative interview date as a reasonable adjustment.

Not assuming anything here, just highlighting what good practice could look like in such a scenario.

When I was going through the recruitment process for Driver the order went:

Application
Interview at future home depot
Assessment
Medical
Offer of employment.

From submitting the form to sitting in the class room on day 1 was 4 months. That was a few years ago and it seems things have radically changed since then!

When I recruited it was.

Assessment day including managers interview
Structured interview
Medical

Come to think of it the terminology of the iterview may have changed, the managers interview was with a driver manager and a member of HR & the structured interview was with just HR. The managers interview was a set of pre drafted questions including the emergency situation, lazer eye surgery, why you want to joing the company etc.

When I've been through it has normally been:

Application forms
Manager Interview (with two driver managers and no one else)
Assessment Centre including Structured Interview (with an Assessor from CCL the test company, everything done independantly from the TOC)
Medical
Put "On Hold" or Recieve contract

That's what I thought as well beveridges except the managers interview was immediately after the assessments. - that's the way we used to do it however just one driver manager and an HR representitive, sometimes you may need 2 driver managers if one is not familiar with the depots workings, traction or routes to answer questions. I was fortunate that I signed the routes and was familiar with all the depots working arangements for the depots I recrited for, maybe that is why it was just one DM.

An employer does not care about people's circumstances.
Attending the interview would have given you the chance of getting the job. If you don't go to the interview, you definitely won't be successful.
I'm not having a go at anyone - that's just the way it is.
Take what the employer is offering you - first time.
I think it is on their terms; not yours.
No offense to Sonic

It was actually First who really arranged the Interviews in the First Place but they didn't book the hotel for long enough on Asesments Day.

A vacancy appeared for Gateline at Glasgow Central (Shift & Relief) on 28th Dec with a closing date of 11th Jan 2012, & was pulled while I was looking at it!
It went up at about 10.00 & was deleted about 13.00
I was just about to apply & it literally disappeared, I called the First Group resourcing/careers number & they told me that they had been advised to remove it by management!!
So i dont know if that means the vacancy no longer exists or if it does they may be using some of the previous applicants from the August advert, if they need anyone?
So who knows some of you who were previously on hold might be in with a shout soon?:?:

Still nothing yet.

That happened to me in 2009,was told i would be contacted if the same role became available again, but wasnt the case, the same role became available 4 months later & my Application status changed from awaiting shortlisting to unsussessful, when i enquired about this i was told they wanted new applicants but would welcome my application again, couldnt see the logic in that one myself.

My other half is short listed but on hold for scotrail. If the same post comes up in 6 months time then you are automatically through the application short list and should get invited to an assessment day according to HR. Take with a pinch of salt though this could be wrong.

Same thing happened to me in 2009 m8,was told i had passed the shortlisting stage & was on hold & if the same or similiar role became available again i would be contacted. The same role did get advertised 4 months later & my application status went to unsussessful, when i enquired about this i was told they had decided to look for new applicants as sometime had passed, but would welcome my application again,so it was definately a pinch of salt in my case
