The old BR ploy - put fares up or make a service bad enough and the passengers will go away. I thought we didn't do that anymore (unless your post was tongue in cheek ) ?
Aside from that, it's clear that nationally there is not enough rolling stock to accommodate burgeoning demand for rail travel. Unfortunately as long as the purse strings are controlled from London nothing will change.

What people cannot get into their thick heads is that there is no spare stock available where and when it is needed, to hire in stock is very expensive and is not cost effective in the long term.
