Journeycheck is showing all Larkhall/Dalmuir services and the Whifflet services cancelled tomorrow presumably because of the speed restrictions. ScotRail has focused on the lines north of the Central Belt with their messaging so there's going to be a lot of people turning up at stations in the morning to find no service on their line.

People need to take some self responsibility and check before travel!

It's not like it has not been all over the news......BBC news homepage about the storm has featured Scotland for 2-3 days.

So from Glasgow to London will require Scotrail from Glasgow to Carlisle via Dumfries, Trans Pennine from Carlisle to Preston, then Avanti from Preston to London. Avanti are extracting the michael as usual.

As long as the Scotrail or TPE don't come face to face with a large tree in fill
Leaf that has come down in the storm and is lying across the track!.

As you say, LNER do not want a train (and their Crew (Edinburgh driver and guard) stuck in Inverness.
The train stables in the platform and does not go on depot.
Any reason why it couldn’t run as far as Perth tonight then ECS safely back to Edinburgh?

How would ticket acceptance work on Tuesday?

I'm due to travel with Avanti and EMR from Edinburgh to Nottingham via Crewe. Had originally split my tickets, one with Avanti and one with EMR.

Now EMR are telling me Avanti have not arranged for ticket acceptance on Tuesday, and Avanti told me I would have to pay for a new ticket from Crewe onwards... Doesn't seem very reasonable if I can't possibly travel tomorrow.

Is anyone else in the same situation having to purchase a new ticket for onward connections?

EMR customers services need to take a good long hard look at there response to you.

Avanti are telling people not to travel, it is only fair that EMR allow you to use your ticket on that day.

If they've already preemptively cancelled both Chieftains for tomorrow, then they really ought to want a unit stuck in Inverness to form Tuesday's service. It might require some diagram rejigging, but there shouldn't be three days of cancellations!

Why shouldn't there be 3 days of cancellations?

Is the line from Inverness to Edinburgh going to be open for 0755 on Tuesday?

Or, as is previous storms, are NR going to want to check the line (and others) to ensure the line is free from any debris.

The people planning all this and doing all the alterations know what they are doing (even if the public and forum members don't think they are).

LNER will have had many conference calls with NR Scotland, between them it will have been decided what service LNER operate.

Also, Hitachi units when they enter service get a 48 hour fitness to run.
If a unit went to Inverness today, and was planned to come back Tuesday, it couldn't come back as a passenger service as the FTR would have expired.
The unit stays in the station at Inverness and no longer goes to depot. And a FTR can not be done in a station.

Passengers can always catch other SR services or RR buses. Depends on unit and traincrew availability.

I'm intrigued that the Met Office map of the Yellow Weather Warning covers the whole of the north of Ireland with the exception of Co Donegal, which is part of Ulster and will be on the front line of the storm. Presumably the residents of Donegal are being directed to Met Eireann in Dublin for any warning.

Edit: I can see no Yellow Weather Warning on the Met Eireann website!
Well - it quite clearly states "UK Weather Warnings" on the Met Office weather warnings page. A line has to be drawn somewhere and about the most obvious place is the national border. Otherwise you'd have the question raised of "how far into the Republic / Belgium / France / Netherlands do you include in weather warnings?" and whether the lack of a warning for somewhere "peripheral" on a UK map was because they weren't going to be affected or just because they were "out of range".

It was mentioned that the western coastal areas of the English yellow warning would be at risk, so how will Northern view the Cumbrian Coast Line?
Isn't the most vulnerable part of that line already closed anyway?

If we’ve proactively changed our plans/bought new tickets for a different day/route in the light of the warnings, how do we stand for refunds on Advance tickets that are not going to be used?

NR Scotland reporting loss of power at Blantyre and using #stormfloris. There's hardly any wind at the moment. Possibly due to the rain?

Northern's approach looks a bit odd. Looks like one or two full rolling stock diagrams are cancelled across Airedale and Wharfedale lines for most of the day, all other services on those line run including Morecambe and Carlisle services. Then in the evening peak three consecutive Leeds - Skipton services are cancelled, but no Leeds - Ilkley services - they must have a very accurate forecast! Source is Northern Journey Check.

All this is attributed to the weather, though it looks a bit like a crew or stock shortage...

Ever since British Rail days, the intercity service changed crew at Preston therefore it is Glasgow / Edinburgh based crew that does the Preston - Scotland leg of the journey. Virgin Trains and AWC kept that arrangement
And yet, Virgin managed to run services to Carlisle during "Beast from the East" back in 2018.

when we don’t know how severe the winds will be

The Met Office know, having issued Yellow and Amber weather warnings.

How Avanti can get away with nothing north of Preston almost weekly is shocking.

According to Realtime Trains, Avanti are operating north of Preston today, so far, with separate trains north and south of Carlisle;

1T07 0629 Glasgow C-Carlisle terminated at Carlisle at 0754, 10 minutes late, and connects into 1M08 0849 Carlisle-Euston, So certainly a disrupted, and slower, journey, but still possible.

I live right down on the south coast so this storm wouldn't affect me, but there was a thunderstorm where I live which caused all trains to be cancelled and even caused a house to catch on fire right next to the St Leonards Diesel Depot (where my dad was working that night).

They might get cut for you by the storm?

If it wasn't for the rain here at present, I probably would have had a go at doing the sides at least. It's windy.....but not excessive so. That of course may/will change.

Thinking about it rationally, it may have negated sweeping up the cuttings.

Just been told by some lovely TPE staff at Waverley that I really should have known better than to travel today, because the weather warning has been out since yesterday evening.

Told them that I didn't know about the weather warning before I came up for the fringe on Friday.

Anyway I'm told to travel tomorrow, no provision for any accommodation overnight for stranded travellers due to cancellations, or for alternate travel.
Also no ticket acceptance on Xc.

Meanwhile Xc running on schedule as normal.

Do these protections not apply for bad weather/stranded travellers? Or are they telling porkies?

But surely Preston crews work to Glasgow/Edinburgh?
TPE also have different arrangements which include Carlisle.
So if the weather allows, some service north of Preston should be feasible, if only to Carlisle.

Think we've had this discussion (with respect to Avanti throwing in the towel on their services North of Preston, this during times of disruption) numerous times in the recent past. No doubt there'll be some apologist able to 'explain' why it still isn't possible.

Whoever inputted TPE’s amended services has not inputted Bolton’s normal pick-up and set down restrictions. Can these be used to travel with Manchester without getting agro from the staff?
