What is going on there now? The ticket office has been a temporary portacabin for around 5 years now and there site looks a mess but there are no signs of anything happening in the near future.

The temporary office came into use mid 2012 following the demolition of the downside building for rebuilding (the help point was also attached to this building!). Subsidence was discovered in the area where the new building was to be put and work stopped. The latest plan is to now build it where the redundant portacabin is behind the temporary booking office/NR access gate.

Wow, thanks RichA that's a very helpful update. I'm surprised it's only been just over 2 years since the downsidebuilding was demolished - it seems much much longer. Your comment about the Help Point is most interesting!! FGW told me that due to the number of passengers using SHU (150k/yr), the cost of an additional HP was not deemed justified!

Do you know if there is a timescale for the building of the new office? The suggested new site sounds like a great location. The area around the old office has been cordoned off with Heras fencing and I'm surprised this hasn't been tidied up given it is not likely to be the new site for an office.

Steevo - I am not directly involved with this project but get sent a NR land use spreadsheet for my job, i noticed the 'change of use' for this piece of land. As a regular user of Stonehouse station myself I take an interest. I will make some enquires and see if I can get an update.
