Staying cool on a night

A few years ago I spent a couple of nights sleeping on a parked up tour bus in the yard as there is aircon and vents in all the bunks. A couple of the other guys had decided to do the same but then the weather cooled so it wasn't necessary, lucky thing as the bus was booked out on a tour the following week.

It is frustrating to go on holiday to northern England, as I did earlier this month, to constant cloud and rain, yet look on the phone at the CCTV view of my garden at home in the south-east to see a bright sunny day.

I don't really mind cloud to be fair, just that it makes for rather dull photographs.

Let's hope for some better weather in the coming weeks, although looking at the forecast I'm not holding my breath on that.

Yes I know the weather's worse - still prefer it to home though, and would move if it wasn't for work and that I like my house!

Last year was seriously thinking about buying a second home somewhere in County Durham, but never got round to it in the end. One day...

Another vote for portable A/C. Nice cold dry room with the added benefit it filters out dust & pollen.

Just knowing you can get a good night's sleep out of the heat & humidity tends to mean you can enjoy the day so much more.

Noise you quickly get used to and I don't personally find the air gets too dry.

Been bloody lovely this weather and I cant complain nor can I believe those who are doing so. The only problem I had was the Central line the other day but not on the way home when I walked most of it.

Sounds like a decent summer. A day for shorts and t shirt, ice cream and the beach! . You really should try Roker or Redcar beach in the pouring rain with a north easterly wind - summer at its best.

Noise you quickly get used to and I don't personally find the air gets too dry.

I would add that my first air con unit was just an on/off affair, so you could get frozen during the night. The second has a remote control (with timer on/off) and you can set the target temperature. It means it will cut out before it cools the room to minus 40 (!).

You definitely get used to the noise. It's louder than a fan, but a noise is a noise and your brain eventually tunes it out when it's consistent. Even the cutting in and out of the air conditioning doesn't affect me anymore, or my wife, or my son who has been sleeping with us because his room has been over 30 degrees some nights.

Been there done that. Just wish someone would design a camera which works well in rain!
