I may try that one day, but if there aren't pictures of EPB's, I will be disappointed.

A shame as ESB is a bloody nice beer.

Very expensive

Whilst the Fullers pubs are expensive, they do usually offer a discount for CAMRA members. At the Parcel Yard it's 10% but it's a very decent 20% at the Doric Arch.

If you drink Shipyard beer in Wetherspoons make the most of it. Ive been told tonight that it is being replaced nationwide by Murphy’s. My local one is selling it at £1.49 a pint to get rid of it! It’s not my beer of choice but it’s at a price I cannot ignore. It’s only 500yds from a station so I think it qualifies for this thread (just).

I do occasionally buy their bottled version if there's not much else available and find it acceptable.

You'd have thought they'd have replaced it with something similar, rather than a stout.

They already added two new craft beers - Seven Brothers IPA and Mad Squirrel Sumo. From what l've seen at least some branches are offering Shipyard in cans going forward.

Tim Martin has had several run-ins with Diageo/Guinness over the years. This may be his latest replacement attempt.

absolutely none of which (beers) have any place in a real ale bar. I have had some nice hand-pulled stouts too, proving that G****ss and other nitro-keg copies aren't the only stouts around, decent dark beers exist!

I absolutely agree - my bad for engaging off the topic. Try Hanlons (used to be O'Hanlons) Stout or Port Stout if you ever get a chance. I've even had a couple of good hand-pulled lagers, Harvistoun Schiehallion being the best.

Yes, there are plenty of good cask stouts, porters and even milds about, all of which I would drink ahead of nitro-keg. If a particular outlet has sufficient cask sales to manage without any nitro-keg, craft or lager, that's fine, but I suspect most do not. Also, as a long-term CAMRA member I'm supposed to believe in customer choice, not restriction.

Anyway, I originally came to this thread to respond to #184, in that I'd experienced a similar 'Spoons £1.49 sell-off a few years back when the one in Todmorden was running down its stocks of Brew Dog's lager, which was actually a very decent one for a UK brew.

Perhaps worth mentioning here is that the 'Rat Race' ale house on Hartlepool station is now closed. The owner, the unique and fantastic 'Pierre' has retired. Undoubtedly to somewhere that they DO NOT sell lager

That's good news- I remember chatting to Phil when the Rat Race opnend, he's a canny chap. Cultural quarter though?! I do hope somebody has told the owners of the 'Royal backs' etc that Church Street is now cultural
