While wondering about a Gloiah crane (different post) I came upon two photos.
When I looked at them (two different stations) in minute detail I can see for both stations they each have some domed gas lamps suspended from the station awnings over the platforms.
Now on the glass domes they had the station names on them.
Why would each station have their name on these lamps?
So passengers on trains at night could read where they were?
So they didn't end up being used at different stations?
Was this a common practise elsewhere, or just on the L & Y railway system?
Do you have any other examples of this?
Thanks,
Andy.
