Leyton Midland Road was originally named simply ‘Leyton’ and had the suffix Midland Road added in 1949. Whereas the present-day Wellingborough station was originally named ‘Wellingborough Midland Road’ but later had the Midland Road suffix dropped.

Until the line closed in 1964 there was a direct service from Wellingborough to Northampton.

Lancaster is the only surviving railway station in the centre of Lancaster. Likewise, Derby is also the only surviving station in the centre of the city it intends to serve (Derby being the city, surprisingly enough.)

Almost every station in Leicestershire has a direct service to Leicester (Bottesford doesn't); almost every station in Devon (not the Tamar Valley stations) has a direct service to Exeter St. Davids.

Prior to its closure in 1973 the Mid Hants service from Alton ran to Southampton Central.

Until the recent major ECML timetable change, the only passenger services passing through Doncaster without calling were LNER's faster hourly London to Edinburgh service and some Grand Central services (Sunderland). Crewe is also skipped by an hourly London to Scotland service and some open-access services.
