A plaque in Bridlington station commemorates the heroism of railway workers during the Second World War. Another station with a similar commemorative plaque is Wolverhampton.

Until 1966 one could have travelled by rail from Accrington to Manchester Victoria via Rawtenstall and Bury Bolton Street a journey still possible today but via Blackburn and Bolton.

The Dutchflyer service lets passengers travel from any UK station served by Greater Anglia to Harwich International and then across the North Sea by Stena Line ferry. One such station is Elmswell on the Ipswich to Ely Line.
